Both photo and signature are validated only for size during upload. Don't think consulate rejects anything and most likely they only do quick verification and rubber stamp as BLS has already done the leg work.

Yes, it would, but again it depends on BLS agent who assists you. If you take another photo from outside, BLS may still reject it. So better to submit the current photo and if they reject it, get the photo done at BLS itself.

Never seen a single instance on forum where-in a postal application was returned due to non-submission of originals. DO NOT send your originals, let them return your application (if at all) rather than risking your original documents.

On minors documents, both parents need to sign. On the form, minor can sign if possible else there is a section that says parents are applying for minor -both parents need to sign there. Also, do not forget to include the NOC, where in both parents photo needs to be pasted

Why don't you book any kind of appointment and hand submit ?. BLS Brampton didn't ask to even see a single original document when I did a counter submit . You just just need to attest each photocopy (This is true copy of original,sign , date, )

They print the certificate (what your Consulate status shows) and then they send it for signing. Once your certificate is signed they release it to BLS , the BLS status changes to "in-transit to BLS" and within 24 hours BLS Status changes to "Ready to pick up". Nowadays SC is taking 6-7 weeks...

Different centres are operating differently but people in past have been able to submit Surrender/OCI using for eg. visa type appointment. When security guard ask what type of appointment you have just say Surrender/OCI as per your case. You should be able to sneak-in.
