RBC ran his US credit and unfortunately he had a major problem with Verizon Wireless and refused to pay and they sent it to collections. I am so not like but we weren't married yet. So they said they couldn't give him a secured card. Probably will be the same at TD Bank. We won't cancel our...

Every VO is different. I would say that for Mexico, in process is definitely a sign that you're close. Obviously there are always those exceptions. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst! =)

You don't need your SIN card to work. In fact I just read they are phasing the cards out. All you need is your number and the COPR in your password in order to work. So you are ready! Good luck!

In Process is a good sign. It usually indicates you are at the end, sometimes it happens after PPR, like with us. So I would say you are close.

Thanks! =) We have been in Canada for 6 months now. It has been really amazing and incredible but also harder than we expected because my husband decided to do a career change (which is great) and he still doesn't have a regular full time job. But we are hanging in there.

Did you have to put down security funds or whatever it is called? Someone else on the board suggested Capital One so we applied online. We should get a letter in the mail but we don't know how much we have to give them. As long as it isn't 1K like RBC! We will pay it off so don't have to worry...

    Question about building Canadian credit

Yes it is. We talked to someone. Because he has no credit, that is the one he was approved for. They would not approve him for a no-guaranteed funds card.

    Question about building Canadian credit

I have excellent US credit and it didn't help me at RBC with a credit card, anyway. I have heard mortgages here are easier to get than in the US. I have also read that new immigrants can get a mortgage but with a hefty down payment.

    Question about building Canadian credit

The yearly fee is $58 but we will close it after a year or 6 months when he can get a second card. We won't be using the card for any purpose other than building credit so we won't be paying interest. We can check out other banks because this credit card isn't officially open until we give them...

    Question about building Canadian credit

Oh yeah we always pay it off. The advice I was given was to make multiple payments in a month because that helps your credit rather than just once.

    Question about building Canadian credit

Wow good news everyone - my husband just got a Capital One credit card! He was approved instantly online and we had an awesome customer rep on chat to guide is through. They didn't require any money from us. I wish I had known about this so I didn't get my 1K tied up especially since we need it...

    Question about building Canadian credit

We don't have a phone bill. We have an internet bill. And a cell phone bill. Maybe I should put everything in my husband's name?

    Question about building Canadian credit

I already talked to one person about the 18 months plus an online chat person. They both said I have to go back to that original branch, a place I avoid because although I do love RBC, they were really annoying. But I have no choice so hopefully they'll change it back to 1 year. I am kicking...

    Question about building Canadian credit

Thank you! RBC was clueless about immigrants. At least the guy we had. He asked Sergio if he was a temporary citizen. Um what?! LOL!

    Question about building Canadian credit

I have a question about Canadian credit. We celebrated 6 months in Canada this weekend (wow!) but my husband has yet to get a credit card. I got one in April at RBC by giving them $1,000. So at least one of us is building credit but my husband needs to start, he is already really late on this...
