I scanned the indian surrender certificate, last held indian passport - first 2 and last 2 pages , as a single document and uploaded it.

The challenge with a single draft for the entire family is - there is no guarantee that all the application forms will be approved by BLS (if submitting in person). If there were issues with one application, then you will have to take a call and take back the entire set....individual drafts...

I think employment letter is not needed unless you are working in the army etc. So any format is fine. Just take and present it and am sure it will be returned.

BLS - takes a week or so for postal application, I think. Once BLS acknowledges it as Under Process / Processing at consulate - it takes 3 to 4 weeks for the status update in the OCI website. Till that time, OCI website status will show"no records found". After that period, the status in OCI...

A question - if the status in the OCI portal shows under process - are there any chances of rejection - citing incorrect photo / incorrect documentation etc.? Anyone in this forum with that experience.

yes. Any appoontment (at least Passport) should be OK.

my 2 cents .....if possible go in person .....and take originals and copy.....and they will take whatever is required....verify the originals and return it.

I think with BLS there is always a sense of uncertainty.....whenever you go to them take the entire set of docs you have whether they ask or not...and if they ask, please give.... while they are streamlining the process, my experience says that their website says something..and in reality their...

For kids less than 5 years you can just give their thumb impression (right hand for girls and left hand for biys). Parents are not needed to sign. If the kids can write their names, they can go ahead and do that too. I did that for my kids (7 year olds)

Spoke too soon.....checked the status update on the OCI website just now and I see the date of acknowledgement as 30th DEC 2022 (so it is porbably afternoon to evening ET / midnight IST)

A QQ----when do the status update happen on the OCI services website---morning, afternoon, evening or midnight ET....... Just wanted to check so that I can reduce the number of tiems i check the website :D

There is no format. Just address a letter to the consulate general of India, Toronto (if you are applying for Toronto or replace with appropriate region) and then state the reason why you are not able to submit the Canadian Passport. BLS just looks for the letter, they dont read or care about...

No. They validated all the originals (Last held Indian / Current Canadian passport / Surrender Certificate / Citizenship Certificate) and returned the originals to me. They needed only copies of the above docs which I had included.

Anyone who applied for OCI in BLS Brampton Walkin on Dec 6th? Are you able to track your status on the OCI website? I am checking and still get the status as "No records found"

hmmm...ok.....maybe they changed the process recently....

SC and OCI are different processes and the photos for these 2 applications need not be the same (though they both need to comply with the specifications). For SC - no online photo upload. For OCI the photo uploaded online must be the same the one in the application which is submitted to BLS

Yes. If you are doing only surrender an in person at Brampton then it is 40 Gillingham Drive. If you are doing Visa and surrender togetther in person at Brampton then it is at 60 Gillingham Drive. Not sure if this has changed in the last one month or since the restart of the eVISA process.
