Not PR yet, but already in Canada, anybody?

I waited in Canada for PR and this is what I also felt like. I was surprised by how it felt to be in this state of neither here nor there. Sounds like you are staying busy. That is important. Hang in there...

    Thread for outland Buffalo applicants!

I put NRA in the SSN field, but that causes Turbo Tax to call that an error in the reviews. So you can't e-submit if you do this. But I just printed anyways and mailed it in.

Does this married filing jointly (and TIN) only work for and/or benefit couples living in the US? We live in Canada and my spouse has never worked or lived in the US. I have been doing married filing separately and listing him as "NRA" in the social security number blank because I read that was...

    Thread for outland Buffalo applicants!

I tried for about two months to get an ITN and was told I couldn't have one and I didn't need one. It took about 6 weeks to get word back (and I had asked in January, so off-season). I made a lot of phone calls to try to figure out what I was supposed to do, and was told to file with no ITN, no...

Unfortunately, I don't know anything about job fairs coming up in Montreal, but the one job fair I went to was full of opportunities that did not align with my work experience or career field. The opportunities were for very corporate environments and there was nothing in a remotely arts-related...

    ontario-quebec-ontario with spouse

On the forms for the MICC, there are English translations you can print out to assist you as you fill out the French forms. There is a section on these forms where the values of Quebec are listed and he will have to sign that he agrees with them and that he will work to learn French. He does...

U.S Citizen Moving to Canada to be with Fiancé

Re: U.S Citizen Moving to Canada to be with Fiancé I was here not working for about a year, and it was okay. It was hard to not be able to start really integrating in society (because that is hard to do when you can't work). We were fortunate in that we could live of my husband's income and a...

I have heard the name of a CPA in Montreal that knows US and Canadian taxes. My friend has used him and was pleased. If you are interested in his name, let me know.

I am interested in the married filing separately tax thing too.... I was told the same thing as Scylla by a CPA friend of mine, so I hope I was well-informed....? But I have been wondering about it. Especially about if there were a joint account....how does that work? And does it matter if the...

If you have a visitor permit for twelve months, you are actually permitted to stay in Canada that long without leaving at all. I was here on a visitor permit and mine was for just over 12 months (although I got PR before that time). The thing is, I was told that when you are on a visitor permit...

    Immigrating to Quebec

When I applied last October, I submitted the entire application to CIC (all at once). Once the CIC approved me for sponsorship they sent the approval letter to us. I then submitted the application for the CSQ and sponsorship approval from Quebec to the MICC and included copies of the CIC...

    Pictures supporting the relationship

I used Publisher and put a number of pictures on each page with dates, names, locations, explanations, etc. I printed in color on regular printer paper and arranged the photos chronologically. I sent about 100 photos from various times in various places, some just with us, some of us and family...

Help Please! American Marrying a Canadian in Quebec and will live in America

We got married in Quebec. You can choose to be married either in a civil ceremony or a religious (Catholic) ceremony. We did civil. We had to post our intent to marry (it is a specific form we had to fill out) in the actual venue we were getting married for the 21-ish days before the ceremony...

That stinks that they told you to send the original. Hopefully you will get it back and won't have to ask for another original copy. (Though it is good to know they can issue new ones!)

    Immigrating to Quebec

You have to send the complete application with everything, all at once, to Mississauga. There are a few parts of the application that are not necessary if you are applying to Quebec. The checklist says on it which parts you can skip (some of the financial proof that CIC normally wants for...

You can call RAMQ as soon as you land or go in to one of their offices in person to apply and start the waiting process. If you have already landed and not registered with them, you should do this immediately to start the 3 month waiting time. They don't keep the forms, they just look at them...

Do not send the original, because as you said, the original is needed for certain things in Quebec. Send a copy and keep your original with you; immigration knows you need to keep the original so they should have no problem with this.
