Extending my stay - A little urgent questions, thanks!

Well, I am just a little wordy and had trouble editing my text down to fit in the allotted spaces. And I had about 10 pages of documents to scan and upload to accompany the request. (Necessary paperwork to renew my work permit.) It was all pretty easy, just time-consuming for me. But I still...

    Tax Advice?

I am American; my husband is Canadian. We got married last October. I lived in the US until September, then moved to Canada for the last four months of 2009. For my 2009 US taxes, I did "married filing separately" and just filed for myself. My husband had only Canadian income and has only ever...

Extending my stay - A little urgent questions, thanks!

It took me HOURS also when I applied online in June to extend my stay. But, I wanted to get it in their system before my work permit was going to expire and I was cutting it close, so I decided submitting it online was best for me. And it worked out fine and they approved mine. Good luck!

    Thread for October 2010 Applicants

TheHal: I would think it would be helpful to include that. I included information about my current work permit and information on the grant that I got that allowed me to come to Canada in the first place. My thoughts were that I wanted to be clear about my current status and why I am here (with...

    Thread for October 2010 Applicants

We used Purolator and it worked out well. I had been planning on FedEx but couldn't find one open on weekends where I live, so we went with Purolator which had longer store hours. Canada Poste was my last choice option because I read on here about someone who used them and their application got...

    Outland from Inland

I used a Canadian address for my mailing address, but this person said I should put my home country address in the blanks that asked for permanent address. But I would think it wouldn't be a problem either way, and agree with you that having mail sent to Canada is preferable if you are living here!

    Outland from Inland

I also spoke to someone in immigration a few weeks ago who said that outland was okay even if you live in Canada when you apply. She said that I am only a temporary visitor here now and my permanent residence is in my home country. She said as long as I have an address there where I can receive...

    Thread for October 2010 Applicants

Ljane79, thanks for your list of tips. I know it will be quite helpful for those preparing their applications. I just sent mine off last week, but I am curious about the Canadian police certificate point. I have been in Canada for the last year, but did not get one since they said it was not...

    How to submit the application?

There are a few old threads on this, but one I found particularly helpful was this one: http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/all-right-thanks-to-your-help-heres-what-ive-got-what-do-you-think-t30502.0.html I grouped everything in the order of the checklists, numbered...

    Thread for October 2010 Applicants

Hi MandyF, I was worried about the exact same thing for my two countries! I ordered both. One came much later than the other, and then I decided to apply outland instead of inland (as I had initially planned) and had to re-do some forms which took some time, and before I realized it, the first...

TheHal, I found the receipt from our first date the other day in a pile of old receipts I was going through. Couldn't believe my husband still had that!!! About the joint account...I just printed the one where we opened the account to show when we opened it. If I were you, I would maybe print...

Paid for OWP; now applying outland

When my sponsor/spouse paid the fees, we were planning on doing an inland application, so we went ahead and paid for the OWP, paying a total of $700. Now we have decided to apply outland and we are ready to mail off the application this week. I am in Canada now with a work permit that is valid...

The other side of US/CAN relationships, Anyone else care to share?

@jmni1: Good luck with the French lessons! I very much agree with Plumosa about trying to learn as much French as possible before you move to Montreal. In Montreal, it is can be difficult to learn French because most people tend to switch to English when they hear from your accent that you are...
