Isn't the process 7 to 9 months? Getting through the test in a month is pretty good timing I think. If voting was very important, then the application should have started way earlier?
Because 45th Canadian Federal election was originally scheduled in October until Carney called an early election a few weeks ago. Anybody did the citizenship test should know when elections are usually held.

Quick question, I requested the E-certificate but since I will have to take the oath in-person, can I change to paper certificate at the time of registration?

Trudeau resigned in early January, with elections expected to take place well before October. Anyone who reads the news should know....

According to the IRCC website, the processing time for Citizenship Grant applications has been reduced to 8 months (updated April 1st). Overall, things are moving faster. It’s not as quick as the October 2024 applications, which were processed in 6 months (according to website) but some received their oath in just 4 months. 1 month's reduction is still an improvement "overall".

I waited 1year and 7 months for my pr. I also want to put this behind me tbh but if it takes 6 months to process I guess that’s fine. I hope my process finishes before my trip in October XD hahaha

Our background was done long before we got the test invite. We also haven't had FP request. Still waiting for LPP though.

The fingerprint request doesn’t appear to have a solid reason behind it and doesn’t seem to impact the overall processing time of applications submitted in a given month. Based on current timelines, we seem to be part of the January batch, and we’re likely to receive the oath invitation around April or May regardless.

Yeah. It doesn't seem to matter much if you have a simple case or otherwise. We haven't left Canada since we arrived in 2012, so there's not a lot to check. But we're still in the queue/batch with people with much more going on.

Exactly. The problem is that there are far too many applications assigned to too few officers. Each time an officer reviews an application, they only have a few minutes to work on it in order to meet their daily quota. As a result, many things such as straightforward applications like yours or simple requests like expedited processing are often overlooked. A major issue is IRCC's decision to assign a disproportionate number of officers to low priority files such as French oriented PR applications with a high volume of ITAs. The number of officers diverted to handle these is unbelievably high which means fewer resources are available for processing citizenship applications. I work in the immigration field and I can confidently say that even with all the background checks and procedural steps a straightforward citizenship application should not take more than a week to process.

On March 21, 2025 IRCC sent out 7,500 ITAs for French language proficiency PR candidates. Before this date thousands more were sent out. These numbers do not match the number of officers IRCC has and as you correctly mentioned they have to move their officers to focus on such ridiculous number of PR applications leaving us who applied for citizenship hanging in the cold. I can't wait to become a citizen soon and just leave dealing with IRCC behind me as a terrible memory. IRCC is truly run by a bunch of knucleheads.
