I talked to a lawyer yesterday and I appreciate her being very honest with me. Basically there is very little the lawyer can do other than going writ of mandamus. However, I will be looking at $12,000 to $20,000 Canadian for the process. Between the already difficult economic challenges and I just don't want to be penalized for something I haven't done wrong, I have decided to not go with the writ of mandamus route. It is what it is, may be I'll go bug the federal election candidates in my area to see if I can draw some attention elsewhere. Anyhow, I'll keep updating here if anything changes, but I hope no other people are in the same boat as me.
This is a very high number, Mandamus normally costs less than 10,000 unless your situation is complicated. There are several steps and lawyers normally charge per step. I'd say don't get discouraged by the number and search for other lawyers. Alternatively, you can self represent for the first two stages and consult or hire a lawyer when you get to hearing. It's time consuming but there are resources/templates eonline that can help.

I feel you man and sympathetic with your situation.

It is a LOT of money, especially during these tough times.
I would reach out to the MP of the area to push, it is unfair that you getting in your third year of waiting!

See my timeline, my AOR was in April 2023,and nothing update since my L P complete(Mar, 2024) . I wrote to MP twice during this period. The first time was 9 months ago, and he told me that it's was waiting for security screening, so there was nothing to do. The second time was at the beginning of February, he checked and told me that everything was completed, except for security screening, so there was nothing to do too. BUT, one week later, my LPP was completed, and I was scheduled to take the oath on the same day, which is next week. IRCC needs to record the MP’s query record in your file. I think the query is useful. Maybe your file is lying in a corner and has been forgotten.

Thanks for everyone's input. The MP office at my area is getting wrapped up for the impending federal election. Last time they talked to IRCC on my behalf, they were on the phone with IRCC for over 40 minutes, but at the end IRCC said they couldn't do anything and asked the MP office to suggest legal services for me, hence I went to talk to a lawyer. I'll keep bugging IRCC and like I said, may be I'll bug the new federal candidates to see if that gets any traction.

The amount may have something to do with I am in Vancouver and everything seems to have a premium pricing on. but even if it's say $8k to start, I am still not doing it. if it's say less than $5k may be I would.

Hello
I just wanted to share information for current and future citizenship applicants who acquired PR through asylum ( refugee claim). I submitted one friend's citizenship application in November, 2022. He received a convention refugee (protected person) status in 2018 and permanent residency at the beginning of 2019. His application had language, background, and physical presence completed till August 2023. His citizenship application had been on hold since September 2023 and there were no updates for over 15 months.

Now he has received an email regarding waiting for a new hearing and IRCC/RPD intention to cancel his protected person status and permanent residency (PR) status as well.
He got his passport from his country of origin after getting his PR, got UK visa and visited there. CBSA says that he applied for his country passport, travelled with that foreign passport, and voluntarily reavailed the protection of his country of nationality.

So If you are a protected person ( accepted refugee) then never apply for the passport of your nationality. Please travel only on Refugee Travel Document if you really need to travel.
The application I mentioned above, received an email today stating " Free services to help you settle as a new permanent resident, tools, and connections you need to feel supported in your new community"
He has been a permanent resident for almost 6 years but has his citizenship application on hold due to getting the passport of his home country. I wonder if anyone else went through this situation and received this kind of email.

I arrived in Canada on PR and applied for Citizenship in July/August 2023. Still pending BG and Prohibitions.
I got the same email this morning which I now think is due to some system reset.
I started online application for renewal of my PR card ( still to be submitted ) as I am not sure how much time is it going to take more. But when I got that email this morning I thought probably it has to do something with my PR card renewal application. But seems more people have got this. So could likely be just a system issue.

Yeah many people got this email, maybe a system glitch
