New SIN will be issued when you receive PR. Now, you can renew your OWP and present SIN.

You need the main copy of your work permit to renew your SIN. Service Canada does not accept online extension letters.

I received the hard copy by mail. I am sharing my experience. Of course you can apply with the digital copy if you have. When you scan the hard copy, it becomes a digital copy. :D Cause everything is online now.
