What would happen if an international graduate is hired by a company but later found to have lied on their resume?

Asking this for a relative of mine and he's an app developer. I've heard for jobs like this he would just get fired and wouldn't get sued for compensation right? What kind of jobs would cause more trouble than just getting fired? Would he/she gets reported to the police/gets sued and become inadmissible to Canada? Someone please help, thanks.

They would not be reported to the police. It's unlikely they would be sued but I guess that could be possible depending on the situation.

Generally speaking someone like this would be fired with cause. If it's a large company, that gets recorded in HR systems

Large companies run background checks where this sort of stuff is usually caught.

Anyway, hard to comment on the specifics without knowing the nature of the job, the company, and the level of misrepresentation. There are some jobs where this would be regarded as very serious (and where a company might take action against someone) and other cases where you'd simply get fired with cause.

btw, do companies typically ask for original passport for verification?

It would really depend on the circumstances and the company. I can't say definitively that someone who is an app developer would not get sued. It could happen depending on the circumstances.

I would say that anyone in an unskilled job is not going to get sued. If it's a skilled job, there's some chance depending on the circumstances.

Did he apply for a WP based on the lie? If he was granted the WP based on a lie and company reports the lie to IRCC it will likely lead to a ban for misrepresentation. As others have indicated don’t lie.

He's never lied to IRCC and his pgwp wasn't based on a lie. So can he become inadmissible even if he only lied to his employer? Any historical instances? I think it will be impossible to prove that he lied to his employer though so I don't think he will.

It feels like you are looking for help for someone who definitely plans to lie to an employer. I think most of us here aren't interested in helping someone who wants to do that and go down a path of dishonestly.

You should advise your friend not to lie. That's the only further advice I'm willing to offer.

I agree. But he's already done it and I was just worrying about he being inadmissible.
