If you don't mind can you share when u applied for surrender certificate and when you received it. Mine i applied Dec 31st and still waiting, it's 10 days in surrender certificate printed stated, BLS tracking always says processing at consulate, i logged a couple of tickets with BLS they just close it stating the same as still being processed at consulate.

Ohh yeah mine was in printed state for more than 10 days. LoL and surrender certificate is just a cheap quality A4 paper. The expensive paper I own right now.

Same case with me. I think they will send the passports back to BLS in batches (instead of sending daily) like every 2 weeks or 3 weeks (just speculating). Its better if they send it at least 2 times a week to speed up the things ...

Trust me, it could be worse. They'd find a way of doing it.

10 years ago, when I got my surrender certificate, they were charging $175+VFS fees ~ $200 total.

And after waiting a few weeks, when I received my SC, it had a spelling mistake. Mind you, I have a very common first name. And first name and last names are 6 characters each. Not easy to make a mistake misspelling in those. I guess $175 isn't enough to proof read.

And when I went it to get it fixed, they sent me another but this time the paper size was really weird. Bigger than A4 but smaller than legal. To me, it sounds like people at the consulate probably take a few dozen drinks before they start their work.

There is a one word for this. Scam!

Purolator courier charges are insane too.

They are no longer doing surrender and OCI together in Toronto. It's a 2-stage process, to remind us to celebrate once this is all done.

Also note they seem to have updated the document checklists recently, so check the latest information on BLS website, or call them. For example, the OCI checklist is now asking for self-attested copies for supporting documents, no more originals. https://blsindia-canada.com/CanadaVisaCCT/Checklist_and_Information_Booklet_for_OCI.pdf
I am pretty confused with the checklist that I have to use to apply for my OCI. Any help would be appreciated!
The link above is a checklist for documents, but there is a different one online which is way more document heavy. See here: https://www.blsindia-canada.com/CanadaVisaCCT/Toronto-OCI-Checklist-Rev-8.0.pdf

Which is the one to be used?

I used the link you shared.

it’s all so complicated. In the world of digital age, India is still using papers for everything. A portal where you could upload documents would have been nice.

Very true! In the link that I shared, do we need to have Marriage certificate, and have a copy of landing of spouse, when applying for a fresh OCI? Or is that only for re-issue?

On that note, what type of application is yours? Single/Married/Re-issue/for Minor?

Sorry I don’t have answers to those questions. Mine was a single application.

Do a postal application. It’s faster. Double check your application before posting it. E.g signatures and list of documents and all. And you will have no problem at all.

Mine was reached the next day I posted it and was marked underprocess in two days.

Do a postal application. Even if you’re getting an appointment after a week. Your postal application would be faster than that given that all your documents are complete and appropriate DD is attached.

Okay. A silly question. What is the use of surrender certificate apart from applying for OCI.

Once we get the OCI, where in future do we need it again?
