Visitor Visa for Husband

Hi everyone,

I would like to apply for the visitor visa for my husband so he can visit me here in Canada. It's been 6 months we had our Nikah, which is a religious marriage, but the wedding has not taken place it, it will be in the coming months. I haven't submitted for the Sponsorship yet either.

I heard that once I apply for the sponsorship, I won't be able to apply for a visitor visa for him. But on the other hand, once I apply for the visitor visa, I can apply for aponsorship afterwards. And if he is visiting me here in Canada, I can apply for the sponsorship in-land. Is this correct?

Also, for the visitor visa, can I apply for him, pr does he have to apply for it? When I go to the Canada website to apply for visa, it asls to log in. Does it have to be his* credentials? Or can I login from my account and make the application for him? I'm confused for this part..

Please kindly help, will really appreciate all input!!

We had a small Nikah ceremony with just the immediate family due to covid restrictions and it is registered in Pakistan.

Is it registered by the government? If no, then only nikah certificate won't work.

It will be very difficult for him to get a visa because you have to declare the Nikah. Being married to a a Canadian of PR makes it difficult to get a TRV not having a sponsorship. You should certainly try.

I didn't quite understand it. So I can apply for his sponsorship and then apply for a TRV? It's possible?
I'm a Canadian citizen, so would it make it difficult for him to have a TRV?
I'm also travelling to Pakistan soon, do you think it's better to apply while I'm in Pakistan? Is it possible to go directly to the Canadian embassy and make the application for sponsorship or TRV and would it be processed faster?

He can apply for a TRV at anytime. Whether it will be approved is a very different story. Before Covid chances were almost zero that a spouse of a Canadian or PR would be approved for a TRV. Chances are slightly better with covid but he can not count on coming to Canada before he is granted PR. Since you are a Canadian citizen he can start his sponsorship process while you are still in Pakistan after your wedding. You don’t have to wait until you return to Canada. It’s up to you when you apply for the TRV. You can try applying now but there is likely better success when you are at least part way through the sponsorship process. Still no guarantees. He will need to show very strong ties to Pakistan. Don’t believe you can enter the embassies these days but follow the online application information. You won‘t be given priority processing either way. Sponsorships from Pakistan usually have longer processing times than average so would plan for over a year.
