Why CEC draw?

I just heard 2 people getting their meds extended but no update on the portal. IRCC agent told them it is a possibility that you'll not see the update anywhere but GCMS. What kind of sorcery is this? Anybody know anything about this?

Last year my meds was extended without an update in the portal. I sent a webform and that’s how I found out. It was extended till April 2021. I later saw it in the gcms notes i ordered

Canada does not produce machines so has little need for product development, has a very small production and manufacturing industry, and R&D is very limited. That's why, except for the energy/oil&gas stuff in AB, mech engs are not in demand in Canada. Go look at the number of job postings and compare it to Sweden (1/4th of Canada's population) and you'll understand.

Besides, if they mean literal "tech" as in the "T" in "STEM" then mech eng wouldn't be there either because ME is the "E" of "STEM".

Top career in Canada as ME: Project Engineer in Alberta. Killer salary, cheap housing, you'd be a land and home owner by 35 at the latest.

What I don't understand is why mechanical engineers are not on the in demand list? (except Alberta). It is on the shortage list in Australia but there are far fewer jobs in that field in AU than in Canada. ORRR maybe enough mech.engineers have come from the FSW stream until this point so PNPs weren't in need? And maybe after only certain NOCs will be invited shortage can occur? This might be true for other NOCs as well. (thinking out loud)

One word. China.
Canada has lost most of its industry and is now reliant on China for any manufacturing.

Job market is a bit different in AUS. They have some industry and I think their proximity to Asia makes them stronger in this regard. Not very sure about it but I also feel that AUS universities produce less (quality?) MEs so this might be contributing to their demand for MEs. I've always heard AUS was somewhat better for MEs than Canada and that's also what I have been seeing from the experiences around me.

Then again, the story is entirely different if you're a project engineer in energy/oil&gas/HVAC etc. You'd have a great life in AB with that career. BC has quite a few jobs in those sectors as well but housing in BC is crazy expensive and salaries are lower than AB so you'll have less purchasing power. For any other ME careers you only have ON (and QC if you can stand it).

Thanks for your input. I chose Canada back then because its closer proximity to Europe and it seemed easier and cheaper to immigrate to than AUS. 491 is attractive but as someone mentioned PR is not guaranteed there. If I worked five years in a country I would surely want to secure a PR by that time.. gambling with that is a no-no

Heard best job for engineer is SNC-Lavalin. Trudeau bailed them out big time
