They have trademarked those. Similar tactic is done by "Realtors". You cann't call yourself one without paying and kissing the ring. Even immigration consultants have similar approaches. True, because anything that needs to be approved by government (which everything is) needs to bear seal and signature of a P.Eng.

In the US, there is quite a bit of work you can do as junior or middle experienced engineer without working with government. Allowing you time to work on p.eng when you arrive. In Canada that is next to impossible.

I actually saw something on the news over the holidays about this very topic. They interviewed an immigrant from Bulgaria who was struggling to find work here cos of the cost of all the certifications needed, despite having a Masters (if i remember correctly)

I think it is mainly for mech,chem,electrical,civil because when I saw industrial they dont ask because we most work as analysts.
In us also I find that a lot not in Canada's scale though especially for civil engineering.

I am thinking about learning French. How difficult is French?

I started learning French upon the recommendation of an individual on this forum and I LOVE IT! It hasn't been as difficult as I thought and it is really very rewarding. The prospect of earning 50 extra CRS points is a nice motivation, but even without that, it seems well worth the effort! If you decide to take up French, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

It is interesting that there are certain individuals who respond to immigration questions on reddit, Quora, and even here that give the same reasoning for 1) why immigrating to Canada is a bad idea 2) why immigrants are ineligible to apply and why it is not even worth the effort. I just see this as an extension of anti-immigration attitudes that we are seeing in the US, parts of Europe, and to a lesser extent Canada. But the extent of the misinformation and the coordinated effort by the anti-immigration folk is disturbing.
Just do your own research. Use more than one source. Ignore people with a clear bias. Don't let anyone color your view of Canada, the US, or the country to which you want to immigrate.

To double the hopium, this percentage is a lower bound of the actual number. Some applicants forget to update PPR on immitracker because they have waited for so long or got too excited.

No country is perfect. Something that's a good choice for someone could be a really poor option for someone else. Anti-immigrant attitudes are everywhere including my own developing country which calls itself the biggest secular democracy in the world while the government wants to amend citizenship rules based on religious grounds. It's best to ignore that anti-immigrant noise (unless it's going to directly affect your life/stability/legal immigration options) and do your own research to determine where you'll be most comfortable based on your social values, career, finances, immigration etc. I personally don't believe in immigrating just for a passport and I have no intention to move around like a nomad anymore. Having said that, hearing legitimate negative opinions from people with an open mind is a part of preparing yourself for what you get into
