I gave my test last night at 10:30 Toronto time. 20/20 pass. only option was to manually send myself a confirmation email. When will it be officially marked as complete?

1-5 business days. I got updates on 2nd business day.
So you should have something tomorrow or by Tuesday/Wednesday.

So I have a very strange scenario. My test changed to completed but background check is still in process. Has this happened to anyone before?

Any idea what I should expect next? This is my timeline:

Type: Paper application
Location: Mississauga
Physical Presence Days: 1110
Application: family (2 adults & 1 minor)
Application Sent: June 9, 2021
Application Delivered: June 14, 2021
AOR: Sept 15th
In process ECAS: Oct 18th
Background Check Completed: Nov 5th
Citizenship Test Request: Nov 30th
Test Window: Dec 6th - 26th
Test Given on the 21st/22nd of December (2 adults)
Test marked as completed on the 23rd/24th of December

I think that is normal. Some locations prefer to do the test before the background check.

If you have a minor as a part of a family application, does the minor’s background status ever change to “completed” or will only the background status of adults change to “completed”? The background check for me and my wife have changed to “completed” but our child’s background status hasn’t changed yet.

Same for me. I think the minor's application will be completed with the parent's so I won't worry too much about it.

How do you know which office is processing your application?

The test invite email had SCR abbreviated. A lot of ppl on this forum have also confirmed that the test email usually indicates the office processing your app

Did you get your test invite yet? Post the email address here I can help you find it. The words SCR appear in the subjectline and in the middle of the email.
