Hi Everyone,

I am an IT consultant from India. I have attended IELTS exam and waiting for my results. I will be creating my express entry profile in another 10-15 days. I wanted to know when is the right time to start applying or looking for jobs in Canada?

Should I wait till, I get the confirmation IRCC on PR or can I start looking for Job immediately once express entry profile is created or before that?
Is it possible to get a work permit job? subsequently land in Canada and wait for PR confirmation?

Thank you.

You can look for jobs anytime but until you land in Canada as PR, the chances of getting a job are slim. You would need to find a job, get an offer and then the employer files for a LMIA. The employer pays $1k and needs to prove no Canadian or PR (you aren’t PR until in Canada nor do you have work authorization) can do the job. The process takes months. Then you apply for apply for a closed work permit. Few people get a job before landing in Canada.

What is your NOC?

Thank you for quick response. My NOC is 2171. The reason i asked this is since canada immigration draws are getting delayed. In case a company is ready to apply for lmia then probably getting work permit is faster than PR. People who have applied in 2020 are still waiting for confirmation..

You can look for a job once EE profile is submitted. You may get lucky and get a job offer and then LMIA. Then apply for a work permit. Depending where you live processing can take many months. What is your CRS score?

My CRS score comes to 420. Job offer can add additional few points. Then hoping one of the PNP draws will be successful.

The chances of getting a job offer and LMIA are low. Few employers go through the long process as they to have provide the government with much paperwork on their business and a market assessement on how hiring you will grow their business, and allow them to hire more Canadians and PRs. Are there other ways you can improve your score?

I am not aware of any other ways. Well learning french is anoter way. However thst will take long time. Another way is to take a master's course. Can you suggest anything here...?

You have suggested the two common ways to increase your score. Even a LMIA with job offer isn’t going to give you a high enough score. You can look at PNPs.

One question in CRS calculation:
In last 10 years, how total years of foreign skilled work experience do you have?
It must have been paid, full time ( or an equal amount in part time) and in only one occupation (NOC skill type 0, A or B)

I work for foreign clients always. However I keep travelling for short duration like 3-6 months. Can this be considered as experience for this question?

So are you self employed? To be eligible, you need one year full-time continuous (or 2 year part-time) work experience in one NOC…no breaks. Do you have this experience? Also you need employment letters to prove that you do the job.

I am not self employed. I am working for big IT company. I am full time employed for past 13+ years. No breaks. I have experience letter to prove that. All this experience has been in NOC 2171. As part of this job i travel short term to countries outside india. Will this be considered as experience the above question.

You can count the experience, not an issue with travel.
