I desperately need some help. I am a CEC candidate with AOR on Aug 28th. I currently have TRV.

I am going to India for my wedding in Feb 2022 for 2 weeks. If I get the first email from IRCC asking for more information, can I delay the response until I return from India? or can I reply saying that I will be travelling to India and will provide the information after I return?

The reason I am looking to do this is because once the eCOPR is issued, my TRV will be cancelled. Also, PR card timelines are uncertain and that can cause problems to re-enter canada. I also tried if PRTD can be applied once I reach India but that takes 2-8 weeks so that is no longer an option.

@legalfalcon please help.
If you are visiting another country for a short duration, and if you end up receiving communication from IRCC, you can definitely wait until you return to Canada, especially if it is to confirm if you are physically in Canada or for the PR confirmation portal.

Since your visit is a short one, 2 weeks, you need not worry.

Even if I receive communication before I leave Canada (say in January), can I respond after I return to Canada (in March)?

That is too long. In this case, you should inform IRCC and let them know that you will be out of Canada.

I see, makes sense. I will let them know via webform in advance and in case I receive those emails before I leave Canada, I will respond to those emails as well saying that I will return to Canada on this date and provide the requested information upon my return.

Dear @legalfalcon,
Kindly provide your input. I got my stamped passport with copr and planning to travel to canada this week. But gc key is not updated with my new counterfoil details. Can i travel when it is not updated yet?
Also, this is the second time my passport is getting stamped. First time i couldn't travel due to covid restrictions. So, my gc key has old counterfoil and says expired.
I am so confused whether to travel with new visa. Please help. Thank you

What matters is the COPR. If you have one, you can travel, your gckey does not matter.

Hi @legalfalcon,
I received my first portal email on November 10th and replied to it on the same day and received the portal credentials on November 20th. I am planing to travel to my home country for a 4 week vacation in the middle of December. I have already booked my tickets. I want to know whether I can inform IRCC to delay issuing the COPR until I return to Canada in January.

Hi @legalfalcon my apologies if this is post is redundant. May I ask :

1. Does sending a letter to MP also helpful to outland applicants? I am planning to send a letter for the MP to my place where I intend to stay (Saskatoon).
2. What will happen if I send a letter to the MP? I mean is there will be an effect positively or negatively to the process of the application?
3. May I ask if what is your take or opinion on the delayed/backlogs of PR applications? do you have any latest update since there's a new minister of IRCC and latest measures on dealing with these backlogs?

Thank you very much and have a blessed Day.:):):)

You can inform them, but getting a response from IRCC is no easy ask. IF IRCC issues you a e-COPR, then your existing visas will be cancelled and the only way for you to return would be to get a PRTD or have your PR card shipped to you.

So keep these things in mind.

What does "Status cancelled" means?
https://ibb.co/99ypPMk
@legalfalcon
This is a reference to A39-41. Here A39-41 correspond to the provisions of IRPA, see https://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/acts/i-2.5/page-9.html#docCont
A39 - 41 refers to the inadmissibility based on financial reasons, misrepresentation or non-compliance with IRPA.

All applications have to go through A39-A41, but it will depend on the officer based on the circumstances of the application where a specific check is required or not.

Security is done by CBSA / CSIS and other partner agencies. They submit a report to IRCC, based on which IRCC will make a final determination. No note is added to the GCMS notes, except that page 2 of security says passed in GCMS notes obtained from CBSA.

1. The MP can only obtain your info and not expedite the process. Here is my old post on this:

An MP inquiry is not a right, rather it is a privilege given to the Member of Parliament to obtain your personal information from a federal agency to help their constituents.

Section 8 of the Privacy act states:
Disclosure of personal information
  • 8 (1) Personal information under the control of a government institution shall not, without the consent of the individual to whom it relates, be disclosed by the institution except in accordance with this section.

    Where personal information may be disclosed

    (2) Subject to any other Act of Parliament, personal information under the control of a government institution may be disclosed
    (a) ...
  • (b) ...
  • (c) ...
  • (d) ...
  • (e) ...
  • (f) ...
  • (g) to a member of Parliament for the purpose of assisting the individual to whom the information relates in resolving a problem;

2. There is nothing positive or negative. A MP has a right to obtain your info, and that is it. MP cannot influence the decision on your application and neither expedite the process. The info the MP gets is the same that you can get with your GCMS notes. Only thing is that the MP will get it faster and inform you over email as to the most recent status.

3. I post most updates on my FB group. The link is in my signature if you want to join.

There is nothing to worry about. All applications go through these checks.
