I'm not a lawyer, so I 100% would get official comfirmation but for my last PR card (2016/17) they held it "in process" a loooong time, so I had to leave Canada and I returned via Buffalo in a rental car with my original landing papers, my expired PR card, my original wedding certificate, copy of spouse's passport (they will be with you, so no issue there) and a complete copy of my PR application and the letter stating my PR card was waiting for pick-up. The agent looked quickly at my PR card and maybe my landing papers, smiled nicely, wished me a nice day... But again please, please, please call an immigration lawyer to confirm. My understand is you cannot be denied entry, but your status could be challenged by Imm Canada if you've not met some obligation. But that there is a process that would occur after you returned into Canada. But again, I beg folks not to take my word for it. Things can change and you don't want to be stuck because you listened to some schmuck on the internet.

Thanks for your input. I totally understand your reluctance to say this is how it'll be and then hear differently. I have read on the Canada Immigration site that for land border crossing, other documents are indeed acceptable. I will get legal input as well, as you advised. My husband actually SENT in his expired PR card - not a copy - so we don't have that in our possession. We do have lots of other documentation though, and the required number of days in Canada has easily been met. I appreciate your response. Hoping the 'in process' moves along and we actually get the card before we go - or at least when I return and can cross the border with him. Are you also an American citizen? Will there be a problem with him flying into the States? (He has his passport.)

IRCC received my PR renewal application June 11, and then I got AOR October 6. Since then, I haven't heard from them. My ECAS and GC key accounts show controversial info. ECAS says "Decision Made", GC says "Processing". Has anyone experienced this?
So far, it has been exactly 155 days. That is longer than the average processing time.
I am a bit confused at this point. What would you do in my situation?

I am a US cit with a Can cit spouse. We travel a lot. My spouse works outside Canada a lot and my residency is often met by counting days I am accompanying my spouse and paying my Can taxes. In 2017 I had to travel to US, so I just flew back to Buffalo and there is no issue with that for US citizens. I can't imagine there is an issue for a US cit to fly into the US from anywhere, even if a Can resident. US border agents don't really even care about your Can residency. Your US status is their concern. Again, I'm not a lawyer, but I've never, in 30 years, had a US border agent say anything about my Can residency, except if was leaving Can. Hope that helps. And again - I really suggest a quick call to a lawyer to confirm. You'll blow more than the cost of an hour consult if I'm wrong.

Finally, I got an update on my application, I am still waiting for my card to arrive.
- We received your application for a permanent resident card on April 26, 2021.
- We sent you correspondence acknowledging receipt of your application(s) on August 19, 2021.
- We started processing your application on August 19, 2021.
- Your Permanent Resident card was sent by mail on November 9, 2021.
JimSharp, don't be afraid to say what you think, this is not a Nazi camp to torture you for saying something wrong. We are all laymen in Canadian immigration (if we were attorneys, we would earn $400/hr giving legal advise, not share it freely on this board, day after day wasting our opportunity to earn tens of thousands of dollars). It's natural that we don't know everything about Canadian laws. And the way federal laws and regulations are written, they have hundreds of articles, sections, subsections, and each is applicable to one or another circumstance, so no wonder what you say could be partially right and partially incomplete or wrong. But no worries. Don't let the "this is dog eat dog world!" types to discourage you from participating in this forum and sharing your valuable thoughts. In general, what you said is correct: if you reach Canadian POE and can prove that you are PR (and the system shows you have valid PR status), then you will be entitled to be admitted. An RO related questions may come up, if border agent is suspicious that you are in breach of RO, but as long as you have evidence to show that you meet RO then the border agent (no matter how hostile and willing to intimidate you) will be forced to admit you without issues.
