These 'people you know' probably live under a highway overpass and push shopping carts. That's all you can afford for 60k.
Or they live in Calgary?
A 770 sqft 2005 built apartment sells for CDN 150 K.

https://www.realtor.ca/real-estate/23678385/203-1000-applevillage-court-se-calgary-applewood-park

With a 15K downpayment, you can get a loan which has monthly payment of some $536 or so (at 2% interest rates).

With 60K income (after tax 45K, $3800 in hand every month), this is very very very much affordable.

PNP draw with a CRS cutoff of 685...So you are telling me that there are provinces/territories within Canada that their needs are better met with a guy of 2- digit CRS score and not those who have scored over 470-480? Honestly, I get that Canada needs low-skilled workers at the same time, and their jobs and position in society are as vital as some of us who scored way higher. I am not going to say they only need doctors, managers, or engineers. We are all human, and there is a place for each of us within society.

What I don't understand is why we "so-called high skilled workers" are forgotten for almost a year now. This is some weird shit I have never imagined to see in my life

IRCC should create a new category, Federal Essential Worker.
Very likely it may happen.. TR-PR may get formalised into something like that.

I believe most of the lower crs PNP are due to Nova Scotia. They have a NOC level c program that gets several lower skilled jobs like butchers, truckers, machine operators, with low language requirements. I constantly receive job postings in my email (never bothers to unfollow) from Vernon/Brandon RNIP looking for food service clerk/supervisors. That’s why I say a TR is only incapable of getting PR with the current system if they want to remain in Ontario/BC.

Just thought to drop this here, for perspective:

My cousin (Nigeria, AOR December 2019 - cos I know someone will ask :)) just got her PPR. She told me she had a colleague who applied same time as her and by GCMS notes was approved in August 2020. Unfortunately, said colleague died earlier this year from COVID.

It just makes you wonder how many PPRs are coming too late for the recipient as they died waiting   . Being alive to hate on IRCC while waiting is something to be grateful for.

Well, true.
Though I suspect a large number of immigrant hopefuls are younger. Now Covid these days is bringing down young folks as well, still the folks who are at the most risk are older (55/60+) folks.

Renting an apartment is as much an agreement to pay for services rendered as is taking out a loan. They ask for all those things to check your credit worthiness and likelihood of defaulting. Not sure why this is a surprise, I used to get asked for all sorts of verifications when I lived in the UK. More so if you are an immigrant.

Be prepared to provide first and last month’s rent (sometimes more in places like Toronto), letter/ confirmation of employment, your credit score (i submitted this for my current apartment) and 3 months payslips.

The housing markets are competitive, and everyone is playing by those rules. Does it suck? Maybe. Do you need to jump through those hopes if you want a good place? Probably, unless you get lucky with the landlord/ rental agency you are dealing with.
I don't know about UK, but in Canada they have this "anti-discrimination" thingy. So just because you are an immigrant, you cannt be asked for a higher standard. Infact you do not need to disclose that you are an immigrant. If you do not disclose that, then only other way left is racial profiling. Which is banned as well.

Of course you don’t have to. Part of my point being that, everyone gets asked for this stuff. It would only become apparent that you are an immigrant (whatever your status) if you are asked for ID and produce something like a non-canadian passport, or a SIN beginning with 9, etc.

First thing you do when you hit Canada is to apply for a Canadian ID. Like a BCID in my case. That way you never have to produce your passport anywhere. Actually giving out your passport copy to anyone is somewhat dangerous. May be a bank is fine but beyond that it is not good.

Oh BTW, AFAIK, you should NEVER give your SIN to anyone. Actually its criminally immoral to ask for SIN.

SIN can be misused to take a line of credit in your name. It will drag you in a nightmare of fighting debt cases.

Yea credit and employment stuff is the first thing they ask in the US as well. Pretty standard when signing any contract and it makes sense. Kinda Sucks that I need to start that file fresh when/if I move lol.

Having said that, it’s possible to sign loans/leases with no credit if you just pay a higher deposit or down payment/interest rate. I’m also seeing that recently, a lot of banks/realty companies etc are offering incentives for newcomers with no credit due to the big immigration wave in Canada. It’s very easy to take advantage of those newcomer schemes and ruin credit if someone isn’t too responsible and goes beyond their salary means though. Living on a roomates/friends lease is another option.

Apologies, I did not mean to sound condescending... Just wanted to point out that its possible and desireable to not disclose your immigration status.
