Is it possible to enter Canada with a passport that has less than 6 months validity

Hello guys, I am currently sponsoring my spouse over to Canada. We have already submitted our application and waiting for approval. However, her passport will probably be less than 6 months when landing to Canada. The official travel document on "https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/passport-travel-document.html" did not mention anything about passport validity and the local government is having very strict rules on renewing passport due to COVID precautions and rules. Therefore I have a few questions, would be great if any of you can provide some information.

1. Is it required to have a passport that is still valid longer than 6 months at time of entry to Canada for sponsorship immigration?
2. If she decide not to renew her passport, what would be the expiry date for her immigration visa? Expiry date as must enter Canada before this date, otherwise will have to re-apply again. In another words, is immigration visa tie to her passport expiry.
3. Can she renew her passport after she got the immigration visa?
4. Any other suggestion, if renewing passport is not an option with current situation? The passport will expire on May of 2022 and she just done her medical exam and biometrics. Currently no interview is asked.

Thanks guys for helping out!

To basically answer all your questions at once - they will (usually) issue a visa in a passport with less than six months, and for a PR arriving, one day remaining is technically enough - the rest is your problem. If the visa and copr expire before she can use them - IRCC is not obliged to issue you a new one.

BUT: all kinds of issues can arrive. Will the airlines know this and accept it? (Whatever you find out in advance is irrelevant if the person who decides at the airport disagrees). What if there's a border closure? What if someone gets sick?

If it expires in May 2022, that is TOO SHORT (and depending on the processing time may not get approved before then anyway).

Apply to get the passport renewed now.

Thanks for the information and strong emphasis regarding renewing passport. I will let her know and hopefully she can get a new passport.
