Ontario is (controversially) planning to lift all restrictions and vaccine mandates by Jan 2022. If this implemented, this means that in-person tests and oath will resume early next year. I wonder how they allow people to gather in schools, theaters, stadiums, ... etc, and not for citizenship tests and oaths. Contradictory planning

not sure how that would work since federal employees fall under federal regulations... kind of like how airports were their own little thing during the pandemic. Don't get me wrong, I sincerely hope they resume in-person services... i just have been disappointed so much that I dont want to get my hopes up =/

BTW, everyone, our dear friend Marco Mendicino is no longer minister of immigration. Sean Fraser was just sworn in. So don't forget to tag him @SeanFraserMP for any future tweets.

If they lift all restrictions, this means that everyone will go back to office, and services will go back to normal with no appointments. This will have an effect on how things are conducted even by IRCC. They won't have a covid-19 excuse anymore, or health measures to follow. The only thing is that this plan is immature at the this stage. No one knows how things will turn. A new variant has been detected in UK, and cases are on the rise there. So, maybe there will be another year of lockdown? I am hoping not, but if the delta variant overwhelms the immune system even with vaccination, I can only imagine a descendent of the delta variant may evade the immune response altogether, at which point we need a new vaccine.

The new minister of immigration has already been swamped by messages. Every category is asking him to give them priority. I am not sure who to satisfy at this stage. All categories apparently suffer from the backlog. I wish IRCC handled things differently. They have created this mess by poor planning and slow response, and now the problem is too big to tackle.

Hi, 2019 applicants. On the IRCC "check your application" status page, I found they updated their status more frequently than before, today they updated as "We’re currently finalizing most applications we received between July 21 and 27, 2019". Does that mean our case will be processed in the near future?

When did you apply? I applied in Nov. 2019, and if I follow exactly where they are now, I will still have to wait at least another 3 months. Yes, they are working faster, but still the backlog is huge. We are in Oct 2021 and they are finalizing July 2019, this is 27 months lag, which means it's taking them 27 months to finalize 2019 applications, while their target is 12 months!!

Their target is 12 months - thats precisely why 2019 applicants are being relegated to the backlog. We are to be an exception, while 2020 and 2021 applicants meet the target.

I think I've seen at least one member that says his/her application was routine and way before that date IRCC claims to have finalized.

Yes, if you called them and told them your file was before the dates they are finalizing, they would say not all files are the same. So, they have answers to your question that you cannot argue with.

covid19,
afghanistan crisis
not all the cases are the same
online information is not reliable (if you tell them that some 2021 applicants have already finished everything)

Any other excuses have you guys heard?
IRCC employees are outstanding excuse-makers.

Yes, i got another one!

An agent on the phone told me that my requests for more information on my file (like, for instance, is anyone actually working on my file at the moment??), were just my opinion not a priority shared by others.

I was speechless..

I didn't get that. Whose opinion? and did you call them or they called you?

I applied in Aug.2019. As all the excuses that you listed, we can't get any information from IRCC. Just like a black box! Let's wait and see, if they will open my file when IRCC website shows they are processing Aug.2019 cases. Unfortunately, my case is handled by Mississauga office and I haven't got test invite until now.

Aug 2019 applicant here. I haven't been invited to the test or heard from IRCC since AoR - so everything is incomplete for me.
I notice they're processing applicants faster as shown on the IRCC website, they're now averaging about 1 week per batch of applicants. At the time of writing, they're processing July 21-27, 2019 applicant. My question are:
  1. What do they mean when they say they're finalizing the applications?
  2. Does it mean they'll expedite the process for those applicants and invite them to do everything from the tests to the oaths?
  3. Or, it literally means they're inviting the applicants to do their oaths and closing out their cases?

I am not sure how to interpret it either... if you click on the question mark icon it says "In the past 3 months, the majority (80%) of the applications we’re finalizing were received during this period". I reaaaaaaaally doubt that is the accurate definition of what they are showing. But who knows.... maybe it's simply a "there are almost no remaining applications from before this period" (and at what stage? DM only? oath?)

I called them in june on this year (before they stopped taking calls). I was going crazy because I had not received test invite yet. I was supposed to be in the first "batch" in december of 2020 since I was part of the group of applicants whose in-person tests were cancelled because of the pandemic and I had received no additional info (they had clearly stated that they would focus on us first).

I got patched through to some agent who was clearly annoyed at having to answer questions from applicants. The agent told me that my file was still in MTL (7 months after I had notified IRCC of my change of address to BC) but they assured me very dryly that "it was all normal and that they would get to my file eventually". I tried to very respectfully explain that we have had extremely little information, and we are kept in the dark. They said all available information was already online, and they asked what more could I want to know. They were clearly irritated at this point.... I asked them if they could at least see if anyone was assigned to my file and was working on it. They said no one was working on it. I replied that that kind of information is actually something applicants would want to have in order to know what's happening with their files. And so they replied "well, that is just your opinion, and your requests for more information are not a priority shared by others".

Go figure.... so much for customer support.

I was shaking in frustration at the end of the call.
