Hello everyone,
I received the invitation to sponsor my parents last Friday. Congratulations to everyone who have also received it and best wishes to those who are awaiting that email, which ends this agonizing wait game
In my application, my father is the principal applicant. I have one sister who is 50 years old. She has a medical condition since birth -
Microcephaly (https://www.who.int/news-room/fact-sheets/detail/microcephaly). In simple words, she is
physically and
financially dependant on my parents - Her mental age is of a 6-year-old. I have no other siblings. According to the definition of
"Dependent children":
Children 22 years old or older qualify as dependants only if they meet both of these requirements:
- they have depended on their parents for financial support since before the age of 22
- they are unable to financially support themselves because of a mental or physical condition
My sister seems to meet both of these above conditions (Type C Dependant). Further, she does not need any medical aid or help for her day-to-day activity.
I have two queries:
- Does she qualify as a dependent child? Has anyone been in a similar situation?
- During the time of submitting my Interest to Sponsor last October, I did not mention my sister's name. Only my father's and mother's details were provided. At that time I didn't know that she might qualify as a dependent child. Can I include her name as the dependent child at this stage now without jeopardizing the entire application process?
I would really really appreciate it if someone can guide me on this matter. It's a living saving situation for my family.
Thank you!
