I am an international student and have been studying and living in Canada for 4 years. My husband and my child (5 years old now) accompanied me to Canada.
We've recently (in April 2016) extended our visas and successfully got our visas that allow us to stay here until 2019. However, my son's passport will expire in April 2017, which means his new visa expires on the same day. I am starting to help him extend his visitor visa. However, he has been diagnosed with mild Autism and the assessment report just came out few days after our first extension of our visas in April 2016. Therefore, this time, on his application, I have to declare this medical condition.
His autism is mild. He has no any development delay and he just looks and acts like a usual child. He goes to public school here and is doing well at school. The only thing he doesn't look like the same-age children is that he prefers to have conversations with adults, not children. The topics he talks are not the children-like topics. He likes to discuss sciences and logic questions with adults. The biggest problem of him is social interaction with peers as he is not interested in playing with the same-age children. We are doing home therapy with a funding from government.
He has done the medical examination in May and he passed the exam.
I am so worried that his extension will be rejected as I've read stories about this except those applicants apply for PR.
The immigration advisor from my university told me it all depends on the immigration officers. If they reject my case, I can appeal. This is the worst situation we can face. I plan to finish my PhD within two years and don't want to let this thing bother me too much.
Anyone has the similar situation and would like to share your experience? Or any experts here can provide me comments?
