This is unbelievable, my citizenship test reverted back from COMPLETED to IN PROGRESS on July 30th. I successfully passed the test on May 22nd scoring 19/20.
And today my application status shows this -

You have been scheduled to take the citizenship test. Read your invitation.

  • You need to take your citizenship test on August 30, 2021
its a glitch - lots of reports of this across the forum.

@rajkamalmohanram are you sure that the residency requirement applies to the oath? I was under the understanding that it was to the time of application. Could you confirm? thanks.
I must look into this - I have been trapped outside of Canada since March 2020 due to COVID. Flip.
DO you know off the top of your head how many days it means in the last 5 years?
Oh, I'm absolutely sure. All requirements for citizenship (which includes PR status being in good standing) must stay that way up until the point of taking oath of Citizenship.

The Residency Obligation for PRs is 2 years of presence in Canada in a 5 year period. So, that's at least 730 days of physical presence in Canada in the last 5 years.

Having said that, you don't automatically lose PR status. If your PR status is being revoked, it needs to go through an official process.

If you are short on days, I would recommend that you plan your trip back to Canada at the earliest.

Jeepers - as if there isn't enough to be worrying about already. I should be ok if I get my test invite soon.........
Thank you @rajkamalmohanram I guess I better get counting backwards....

Do you have to fill in another declaration of time in Canada before the oath?
I am definitely confused here now. Is it the case that before you get invited for your oath - immigration do another calculation? And has anyone had an issue with this before - its certainly the first I am hearing about it.
I am not sure that I am in imminent danger of being in breach of the residency requirement but I am worried that if my application goes on and on and on and on (May 2020 no test invite) that this will start to become a proper worry. @rajkamalmohanram ??

The eligibility can (and likely will) be checked at a later point in time to ensure applicants are still eligible.

Requirements maintained until Oath

Subsection 22(6) of the Citizenship Act prohibits a person from taking the Oath of Citizenship if they never met or no longer meet the requirements of the Act. Applicants must then continue to meet all the requirements for the grant of citizenship until the taking of the Oath.
Citizenship officers may refuse an application for grant of citizenship after the application has already been approved if it has been determined that all of the requirements for the grant of citizenship have not been maintained at the time the Oath is to be taken. In these cases, the applicant will not be permitted to take the Oath.
Like I already said before, if you are short on days, your best option would be to get back to Canada at the earliest convenience.
