Hi Friends,

I applied for my minor son's citizenship through paper application in May 2021 while I applied separately online in Jun 2021 and my wife also applied separately online in May 2021. I and my wife haven't received our AOR yet. My son's application was returned stating that it didn't have atleast one parent's citizenship proof or proof of citizenship being applied. As per the rules that I checked now, it says that either one parent needs to be a citizen or for a minor application needs to be submitted along with atleast one parent as a family application. So can you please suggest which of the following option I should choose now: (We prefer option 1 below but will need some expert advice to confirm)

1. Submit paper application of citizenship for all 3 of us. Share the payment receipt of online application for my wife and I in the paper application and ask our Online application to be ignored. For my son, they mentioned that since they are returning his application so they will refund the application fee. We haven't got the refund yet. But assuming we will get the refund, pay my son's fee again and attach the receipt to my Son's paper application as part of the family application.

2. Withdraw the online application for my wife and I. Will we get the full refund since we haven't got AOR? Then submit new family paper application for all 3 of us. In this case should we wait for our application to be approved for withdrawal and wait for our refund of fee before applying?

3. Submit my Son's application again in paper form with new fee receipt and attach my wife's and my online submission confirmation email copy from IRCC.

We have raised Web form but are yet to get a response. Also not able to reach the call center to talk to a rep.

Thanks

Well, you can go with option 1 if you want to.

1. Withdraw both the online applications (you and your wife)
2. Submit a paper applications for you, your spouse and your child with new payment receipts. You can send them in the same envelope.

If they explicitly mentioned that your child's application fee is being refunded, the refund can take a while (about 8 weeks). Also, AFAIK, if you withdraw your application, the application fee will be automatically refunded (again, it could take up to 8 weeks).

Hi Raj,

Thank you for your prompt response. If we withdraw the online applications before AOR will we get full refund?

So I was thinking on not withdrawing and instead use the same payment receipt from online application for my wife and I in the new paper application for family and then mention in the application to ignore the online application and instead process the paper application. What do you think?

Thanks

You can use the same receipts, yes.

You can't simply ask them to "ignore" the application, you have to follow a formal application withdrawal process. You have to send form CIT0027E via mail to the IRCC office in Sydney, NS to withdraw your application (follow the instructions in the link below). Send these documents for you and your spouse. If they haven't started processing your application yet, you will get a full refund. Along with this application, you can probably include a letter requesting IRCC NOT to refund the fee because you're using the same fee receipt with a new paper application.

Thanks Raj,

One quick follow up question. Can we send one single packet to IRCC in which we can put in our withdrawal request for online applications and also put in our paper applications mentioning to not refund the fees and instead consider the fees to be used in the new paper applications? Given that we have not received our AORs yet we are expecting a full refund.

Thanks

I'm not sure about that and I haven't seen any posts related to that.

Since there isn't a known precedent here, I would recommend sending the withdrawal applications and your new paper applications separately. (One envelope for withdrawal for yourself and spouse) along with a letter requesting NOT to refund the fee and one envelope for Citizenship applications for yourself, your spouse and child.

Thanks Raj,

We then don't need for the withdrawal application to be accepted and can submit both the application - Withdrawal and Family Paper Application in parallel?

Thanks

Yes, IMO. You can submit them in parallel but do it in separate envelopes as suggested in my previous post.
