Hello All,

I just have a few questions that I wanted to clarify.

My Situation Right Now:

I am applying for a study permit to come to Canada for the upcoming fall semester. I applied for my study permit from the UK and non-SDS category and recently got a passport request form from IRCC.

My questions:

1) I realise that once I land in Canada the Immigration officer will ask me some questions before issuing my official study permit. I have researched some of the questions that they might ask also. Let's suppose the officer asks "What are the financial support you have here in Canada?" Since I don't have a Canadian bank account and that the non-SDS category does not require a GIC bank account. Will I be able to show my Dad's bank statements for financial support and say that once I come to Canada I will open a bank account? As these were the documents I initially submitted to the IRCC in my application.

2) Or should I open a savings account in a Canadian bank and put some funds in there before coming to the Canada?

3) Although I applied for a study permit from the Uk I am still a citizen of India. So will the officer consider me as an Applicant of the UK or an Applicant of India?

I am really stuck on this and I want my transition to happen as smooth as possible. Answers to these questions will be very much appreciated.

Thanks!

Not any help to you but would you mind saying when you applied and did your biometrics?

I applied from U.K. but am from Argentina and have had no movement whatsoever on my application.

1. Also good to have cash on hand that you can exchange to CAD
2. Would be even better
3. You are Indian. The fact that you are not a UK PR or citizen will hurt your application. (weak home ties)

Would start with waiting to see if you get the study permit. There is no need to get a bank account in Canada before entering Canada. You’ll be considered a student arriving from India. If approved you’ll be given directions on how to obtain stamping in the UK or India depending where you are currently residing.

Hello, thanks for you're reply. I am currently residing in the UK. I have also sent my passport to VAC centre. My question is since I am residing in the UK I am not eligible for a GIC. So when the immigration officer asks me "What financial support do you have here in Canada?" May I show my bank account statement here in the UK and say that I will be opening a savings account once I enter Canada to support myself?

Or like you mentioned above I will be considered an Indian can I still open a gic account from the UK itself?

I think you should show the same financial statement you used for your application to the immigration officer . If you have some cash/card too it will help .

AFAIK, anybody can open a GIC account. Maybe you are referring to SDS qualification?
