I referred to the study permit guide for my Visa office; from what I remember, an English-language test was recommended. In any case, I did not submit any proof of English language proficiency and my application was approved :D
Probably because you studied in the UK? I don't know why the requirements are not uniformly enforced, I'm just highlighting what has recently changed, especially with India. For South Africa, we don't have SDS stream, but our country's list mandates english test and PCC. Not all countries require PCC and it's not on IRCC official checklist.

I don’t think it’s about “those who have private profiles are refused” — these ‘social media checks’ are common practice these days in immigration, jobs and even university admissions ( as my brother found out, the guy who interviewed him for a place at an American university checked his LinkedIn profile ) ; that is simply because all of this information is available in the public domain and therefore they’re free to collect and view that information. However I don’t think they refuse your application if you have a private account, or no account at all.
I said they make an opinion by looking at your profile. The opinion that makes them make a decision.

That would be my guess as well. His case is certainly different from someone who studied in India. This is the danger of online forums when people say "I didn't do this and that and I still got my visa" without providing more details as to why their case is probably different. I'm not taking a dig at you @DevSB :) .
Exactly, unless we know details about a person we can't know what might have worked for them.

Hello. Just giving you a perspective. I filled non-SDS and haven’t provided English language Test scores. Now I don’t have an approval yet (thanks to the lightening speed of VO in India).. BUT...

1. A lot of my incoming class students who got their visas before the second wave- they had not submitted IELTS too and they got approvals.
2. My university provides English language test waivers to some students based on their GMAT scores and interview performance and somewhat Indian/Pak/Bangladesh students as they know generally business is conducted in English.
3. I have submitted my English Language Test Waiver in SOP.
4. Even then a few students got request for IELTS score and some did not (perfect IRCC black box fashion). Some raised webforms explaining the school has waived it off for them and some were too scared to retaliate so they went for IELTS.

Hope this perspective helps.

When I did my MBA in 2015 from McGill, there was no concept of SDS, but didn't need it back then as the university provided a similar document

Yes. I believe it’s easier to waive off for MBAs/PhDs at top schools because the selection criteria is already stringent! I don’t know the IRCC logic of still asking some and not asking some to submit it later during application.
Do you mind me asking. What will you pursue this fall after the McGill MBA? :)

I don't think I have it in me to do any more studying! This application is for my brother in law, just following up here since I had an account from back in the day!

What is this waiver document actually? when I got admission IELTS centers were closed and they gave admission on the basis of Duolingo. Can I ask for this waiver document from my university?

Also, a guy has got letter from his previous institute that medium of studies was English and he has got a medical request from IRCC which means his visa is probably approved.

So the letter simply states that you have a confirmed offer of admission and you do not need to submit any test scores for English proficiency given your past educational records and admission scrutiny.

And yes, many undergraduate universities shall give you a letter stating medium of instruction was English and all. But be aware one of my incoming classmates submitted UG certificate, university waiver and they have still asked her for IELTS. Lol. IRCC I tell ya!

They are difficult people. It's taking so much time to prepare for this 300 CAD test. All my life I have studied in English and still need to give this stupid test which is not even an English test but more like an IQ test.
