Applying for entry visa when holding a study permit

My problem solved but leaving this thread here in case someone in the same situation encounters the same question.

In short, if you do your undergrad in Canada, get admitted into grad school, use the offer to extend your a study permit in Canada, (due to various reasons esp the pandemic) do not take any class with it, leave Canada, return to your own country, change to another school, and plan to return Canada, then you will need a NEW STUDY PERMIT INSTEAD OF just using the old study permit you have to apply for an ENTRY VISA.

(I think I am the only one who did all the above step by step during the pandemic)

Hi there. I am a returning international student. I did my undergrad at UofT from 2016-2020. I applied for a MSc in UofT that started in Fall 2020 and got admitted. I then used the admission to extend my study permit in Canada in June 2020 and got approved on September 2020. For various reasons (mainly COVID) I could not attend the program and finally had to give it up. I then returned to my home country and applied for McGill MSc again that starts this Fall. I got admitted on March and managed to file an entry visa application on May 1st. My GIC account showed "Your eligibility is being reviewed" since June 2nd but I did not hear anything new from them after that. Does anybody know what it means? The processing time for entry visa is over 400 days from the IRCC website for my country (https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/application/check-processing-times.html) so I am very worried that if I could not get the visa on time, I might need to defer my study for one year once again and this is the last thing I want... My agent suggested me to send them a webform to ask about the application process and I did it last week... but still no response. Is anyone in the same situation with me? Or does anyone have any suggestions?
June 02 is 12days ago…

No i just submitted an application of entry visa. In the questionnaire they asked if I have a valid study permit and I answered yes. So ended up applying for the entry visa only. And I changed DLI on the GIC portal before I submitted the application
So you didn’t attend school at all in the fall? If so the university should have contacted IRCC and your study permit would have been cancelled.

@ShirlyL I would recommend you to change the title back to as it was previously, so that the people that may face the same as you could get the answers here, instead of posting a new thread.

Context is lost since OP deleted some of her posts, but from what I can see, she clearly needed a new study permit as it's been more than 180 days between her last program and the new one (since she didn't start classes last fall). The information is readily available on the IRCC website.

I am just curious. In this case, will the IRCC reject the entry visa application? If so, why did it take so long since it’s already a month and a half and I want to get the rejection before filing a new study permit application

Everything takes much longer now because COVID. No one can tell you if IRCC will approve or reject your application. Since you applied for a normal TRV, you can still go ahead and apply for your new SP now, before you get the decision on your visit visa.
