The extension will be dependent on what is going on in India and less about what is going on in Canada. If the rates of infection remain high in India the risk of changing the ban remains. If anything there may be more bans if other countries are infected by this variant and other countries experience high rates of infection.

India reached its peak at 400, 000 infections per day and currently its reduced to 250, 000 infections per day. Vaccination is at full pace, I reckon the curve is going down. If this stays like this then the infections rate would drastically reduce allowing Canada to open borders sooner than expected.

India's current rate of infection are likely significantly underestimated. Just like in Canada, the timeline where a person is still infectious can be much longer than the day were the infection has been identified.. Infection rates are still high so it is very unlikely that the ban will be lifted early. If anything it could still be extended.

The positivity rate is a good indicator of how quickly the virus is spreading. Even if the current case count is a gross underestimation ( which it is ) you will find that testing is going up ( the highest single day testing of any country at any time during the pandemic ) , and the positivity rate is going down.. in many states it’s under 5 percent.

The movement of he virus out of the large cities to smaller cities and villages likely one of the reason that positivity rate is going down. Testing is not as available if available at all so it is very tough to rely on the data coming out of India (and out of many other countries including the US).

I don't think "sooner than expected" is appropriate phrase as it is vague. Canada has daily cases average 5,000 a daily against 250,000 daily case in India. BC has reported 400 cases and we have restriction in place not to move outside the health regions plus other registration. As today is long weekend, police have set up check point and turn away people going for long weekend vacation outside their region/ and issue ticket where necessary. You can understand comparison and the appetite not to mess up again. Priority right now is to bend the curve, increase vaccination to above 75% first does/ 20% second dose and reopen the economy. this suspension will be extended over and over...

Well in that case, as a gesture of goodwill, the government could refund our mandatory 3-night hotel quarantine reservations that we spent $1000+ on but can't refund or even stay in.

Is the Government collecting the fees, reservations or issued list of hotels approved to quarantine? and hotel manage reservations and the fees....I think its good gesture for the hotel to refund not the Government, and plus hotels have their refund policy we accept before reservation

I live in Toronto, and am aware of daily cases but do you know that people are still venturing out without proper gear. There are another set of people who are anti lockdown protestors and anti Vacccine protestors. Vaccination is the only way out of this and with protestors in Canada could be delaying things. This is not the case in India, although the numbers are high, curve is going down "sooner than expected". You have no idea how the Vaccination drive in India is going on. Suspension can be withdrawn if the current situation changes "Sooner than expected"

Hopeful, and wonder why border with United States remains closed for non-essential for almost 14months now and despite current cases in US and the vaccination, hopeful that one will be opened
