Pre-arrival letter received - 13 May
COPR Received - 21 May 2021

I will be issued the COPR document once i send my document to immigration office in NY USA (Application - outside of canada). Believe they attach a COPR related short term visa so that we can travel to canada (while landing process) and get the necessary documents stamped on the passport. However, my confusion is am i required to send my passport along with other documents they need even though i have a tourist visa to enter canada while landing process ?? The document mentions, if you require a visa to enter canada, then submit your passport. I already have a tourist visa so reckon i do not need to submit my passport with the package i will send to immigration office. Would really appreciate if anyone can confirm this understanding pls. I dont want to miss out sending my passport with other documents to immigration office irrespective of having a tourist visa to enter canada.
You need to submit your passport.

When they say "if you require a visa to enter Canada", they mean by your passport/nationality, not whether you already have a visa.

No, you cannot enter as a new PR with a tourist visa - you need a separate new visa which they will insert in your passport. (I do not know whether they will cancel your tourist visa but you should consider it invalid)

Thanks again. Believe i will have to apply for a PR travel visa or PRTD (Permanent Resident travel document) through VAC (Visa application centre NY, USA). It looks to be similar exercise i had to undergo for my visitor visa before. Then the entire package with all documents/photographs would have to be sent to Visa Application Centre – New York 145 West 45th Street, 4th floor New York NY 10036 U.S.A as per the email i received.

Any idea on the ETA for this process mate ?? I would expect to receive the COPR document with a PR visa stamped on my passport by the end of it, right ? Any more info on this will be much appreciated guys.

Follow the instructions. If you're from a country that requires a visa, and you got the passport request letter, they will issue you the visa and copr together at the same time. Not a separate application.

right okay. In my email, at the last step for submitting the docs they have provided their address with below instructions -
Please visit the VAC website at the link below for details on how to submit your package for secure transmission. (*Please note a service fee is applicable) If you have any questions about how to submit your original passport, please contact the VAC using the information available on the following website: https://www.vfsglobal.ca/canada/usa/
If i go to their site, they have mentioned how to apply for PR travel document/visa in case of someone immigrating for the first time with all other docs required. Bit confusing to say the least, but as you conveyed there wont be a separate application then probably just the email copy, my passport, updated info in the attached appendix A doc and two photographs is what i would sent across to VAC now.

So, this is all very discouraging. It appears that IRCC is completely swamped and I wonder how many years it will take for my wife to get her residency so she can join me in Canada. We have been married for 9+ years and in a relationship for an additional 6 years.

Anyone else at roughly the same stage? Or if not, how and through whom did you submit your spouse’s Outland application?

  • The application was received at the Centralized Intake Office (CIO) in Sydney, Nova Scotia, on June 23, 2020.
  • The initial assessment to ensure the applicant’s submission is complete is still in process.
  • The assessment to ensure the sponsor meets all the sponsorship requirements has not been initiated.
  • The assessment to determine if the sponsored person (the applicant) meets the eligibility requirements has not been initiated.
  • The medical examination results have not been requested for the applicant.
  • The criminality verifications are in process.
  • The security verifications have not been initiated.
  • As per our current processing times, most applications in this category are processed in a timeframe of 12 months. Various factors can affect the time it takes to process an application. Rest assured that all efforts are being made to ensure efficient processing of the application.

You may have to call them or hear from others who submitted through that company.

I got a PPR this morning, and it says if I’m already in Canada I don’t need to send my passport and I should inform the VO about that via Webform. The first part of letter says “if there’s something.....plz contact Manila VO” but another part says “if there’s some mistakes.....plz contact Beijing VO”.
I got completely confused...which VO should I inform?

Thank you! I got surprised I received PPR very next day of getting DM, and hopefully I can finish before my visitor visa expires. I assume IRCC is trying to manage to finish in one year cuz our app was received last June. So I really feel you, but yours was received in August and is already in process. Finger crossed for you!
