Hello, I have received my study visa and will be traveling to Canada within next 10 days. I haven't paid my tuition fees for the first year or any semesters due to high bank transfer fees from my country. Do you think I will face issues in any transit country airlines or at the border office in Canada? Is it mandatory to have the payment receipt in order to allow you board the plane or enter the country?

PS: I have already paid the 500CAD deposit fee.

Did anyone face issues without paying the tuition fee?

You should be more worried if the college or university has cancelled your application, usually they require payment of 1st instalment before the deadline on your LOA.

Thank you for your reply, my study starts on June 28 and my seat is still standing. I have already paid the deposit fee.

You are going to have to the transfer funds sooner or later and still be faced with the same bank transfer fees. Infact, it maybe more difficult if you are in Canada and trying to access your account in your home country.

i think what he wants to do is to to open bank account in canada. then transfer all of his money there then pay the school. as long as the payment deadline is still far. make sure u pay your deadline .

AFAIK, colleges and unis have a deadline to pay at least 1 semester of fee to be enrolled. Since you only paid a deposit, then you are not yet enrolled to your program. How would you explain that to the CBSA at PoE if you were asked?

Opening bank account in Canada and transfer money from other country will cost same transfer fee as sent to the College...

situation 1: Bank charges $60 to College
situation 2:Bank charges $60 to his account
Situation 3:
After being charged to transfer money to your own account opened in Canada, Bank will charge another transfer fee/ Bank draft to the College
Situation 4: transfer fund more than certain amount CRA may ask if you did not declare while filing your tax next year...

choice is yours, but either way you will be charged, and thats how bankers get paid

Its the same, whether you pay now or later your University will issue T220, that you’ll use for education tax credit....

my point was i would save bank fees if i transfer from home as long as i have approved study permit, than charged to transfer into my account in canada and charged again to transfer to DLI. Double charge

This turned into something else, I was asking if students are allowed to board flights without paying the tuition fee or not??

High chance you will be asked at the border why you have not paid tuition yet
Thank you Tapperb, I have only paid the deposit fee, so I don’t know if they will be satisfied or not. I will also provide bank statement to proof I have the funds available and pay before starting my studies.

Right, thats what I did. Printed bank statement to show that I have enough funds to cover tuition when I get here.....I wasn't asked for it though
