guys newbie questions..

1. i am PR in canada (currently in canada), i am married in philippines to a filipina. I will be sponsoring her soon. Do I have to create an CIC spouse application online or she has to do it with her own account?
2. we are going to apply for outland sponsorship, who is going to send the physical documents to CIC? (me in Canada, or her in Philippines)?
3. I believe we need NBI clearance for her, but does she also need police clearance from philippines or not?

Hi,

1. You have to submit first your application before you create an account. After they receive your application they'll send you a will UCI number to link

2. You can apply thru online or paper. I prefer paper application. There is a checklist for what you need in processing your application.

3. Yes she is required to submit NBI clearance and yours will be criminal record check.

1. There's no online spousal sponsorship (yet), only paper. Can still make sense to have an account.
2. Since you are a PR, it would be better if you submit from within Canada (so that it is clear you are resident in Canada).

i read that the sponsor (if already a canadian citizen or canadian permanent resident), dont need to submit police clearance anymore. correct?

Is it okay if after marriage, my filipino wife doesnt change her last name in the passport. But her other documents already have my last name.

Will this cause any issue if i apply for her PR?

Is she planning on getting a new PP with the name change?
1. we were planning to get a new passport but due to covid lockdowns, her appointment is being moved, its been delayed 2 times.. thats why we are wondering if we can skip the last name change on her passport.

2. before marriage we were in long distance relationship for 3 years, we have video calls pictures and chats (but in other language). is it okay if i dont provide chats to the visa officer? (i dont know where to find the certified translator, we have thousands of chats (3 years))

Any new movement?

Aug 2019 applicant here from CPC-M, last update: Security Check started January 5, 2021.
On our ECAS shows APP RECEIVED, called IRCC, they said our file was transferred to MVO.

I dont know what to feel anymore, after waiting that long from CPCM they will just transfer us to MVO.

In Canada there is no requirement for a spouse to change her name but as far as immigration goes I don't know if it will cause issues with the different names on the docs. Maybe @canuck78 @armoured or @scylla will be able to step in here with an opinion.

I do not know for certain, but: since presumably other documents like birth certificate would show maiden name, I think it should be fine for purposes of applying for spousal sponsorship. But would include a letter of explanation that new passport has been applied for / will be applied for shortly and copy will be provided to IRCC as soon as received. I presume the marriage certificate or similar shows the legal change of name as well.

(I'm not addressing whether would be possible to keep maiden name on passport in long term; seems 'cleaner' to me to settle on one name after the name change and use that exclusively as soon as it can be finalized)
