Hi Seniors,

I have 2 passports: first and second (Current)

-First Passport has Date of Issue : 25 Jan 2005 and Date of expiry: 24 Jan 2015.But was stamped "Cancelled " when I got second Passport (current) issued before its expiry.

-The second (current) passport has Date of Issue : 8 Aug 2014 and Date of Expiry :7 Aug 2024

So, for the first passport, what should I mention as Expiry Date in Question 14 of Citizenship form? :::: 24 Jan 2015 OR 7 Aug 2014 i.e. a day before it was supersede by new passport.

For the first passport, write the exact date of expiry written in your passport. In your case, it would be January 24, 2015.

Thanks RJ2020. Do I have to explain this anywhere.....like in the letter of explanation, along with the applicant package ?

Mine is a unique situation , so would welcome more feedback ,if any one has has a similar situation.

No you don't need to explain anything extra apart from what RJ2020 pointed out above.

I was in the same situation, my old passport was set to expire on July 2012 and my new passport was issued in Jan 2012, so I have specified the expiry date of my old passport in my application rather than the date of when my new passport was issued.

Lots of people get a new passport before the old one expires. My latest I got over a year before the old one expired (because I was moving and didn't want to deal with renewing from abroad), never explained why and they never asked

Hi Navid2014,

Thanks for your response, regarding the old passport.

Regarding the current passport ,just like old passport, I hope I have to put the expiry date as shown on it .ie. 7 Aug 2024 ?

What stage needs to be cleared in the whole process, before one is sure that there no objection on this point (or any other point/deficiency).Sorry asking this, as I read your signature but dont know the full forms of the acronyms used in your signature.

Hi Gemini,

Thanks for your response. So as you also suggest , I will go ahead filling the date of expiry mentioned in my old passport ,even though the new passport was issued earlier than this date.

You're probably overthinking something that doesn't matter much.
The same way the day a work permit is no longer valid is the day someone becomes a PR and not the date written on the document, the expiry date of a passport is the day it's no longer valid, which happens to be the 1st day of validity of the new passport, regardless of the maximum validity date.

So, put that. Or the day before if you want. But even if you don't and write the full 10 years period, it very probably goes the exact same way.
The IRCC officer will figure it out, they're human and they know how something that they see many times a day work.

Also, yes, the expiry date of your current passport has to be put as it shows in its biographic page. Which doesn't mean that it will still be valid when that day comes... :)

False! I disagree! The expiry date that you write in the form should be the exact expiry date written in your passport. If your first passport expires in April X, 2021, and you renewed it earlier than the time it's expired, and if the validity of your renewed passport starts from February Y, 2021, the date of expiry you write in the form should be the one written in your first passport which is April X, 2021.

Hi Seym/RJ2020/Gemini020/ Others,

Sorry for this but there is something which I overlooked earlier.
So perhaps this query needs to be looked under different light. The wording of the question 14 is :

"Have you held travel documents and/or passports during your 5 years of eligibility period
Tell us about all your travel documents and/passports covering your 5 years of eligibility period. If there are any gaps between passports pls provide explanation"

My tentative eligibility period is : 15 May 2016 to 15 May 2021

Passports details: Date of IssueDate of expiry
First Passport25 Jan 200524 Jan 2015
Second (current) Passport8 Aug 20147 Aug 2024
Visas:Date of IssueDate of expiry
USA Visa B1/B2 on Second (current) Passport10 Oct 20148 Oct 2024
Canadaian Visitor Visa category V-1 on Second (current) Passport 3 Nov 20166 Aug 2024
Canadian Immigrant Visa category IM-1 on Second (current) Passport7 Dec 2017 29 May 2018

Queries:
1) Am I correct that I just need to mention date of issue and expiry of Second (current) Passport. Not to mention about first one at ?
2)Do I need to mention about the USA Visitor Visa ?
3)Do I need to mention about the Canadian Visitor Visa ?
4)Do I need to mention about the Canadian Immigrant Visa ?...this was issued when I got my PR

I am also posting this question as a new post with a more relevant subject line.

First of all, I state only my personal opinion. I am not an expert and if you have any questions, you should always call IRCC and ask them as they're the only reliable source you have.

Regarding question 14, you do not mention your VISAs in this section as they're not travel documents. You only mention VISAs in question 13.

1) You need to mention the date of issue and expiry of all passports covering your 5-year eligibility period. In your case, since your eligibility period starts from May 2016, and your second passport has been valid from Aug 2014, you don't need to mention your first passport.

2) If you're asking whether you need to mention a visitor VISA in question 13 or not, please refer to this thread as I wrote my personal opinion in this regard today:
https://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/threads/february-2021-citizenship-applications.720268/page-31#post-9339824

3) No. You do not mention any types of Canadian VISA you've ever had in question 13. It clearly asks if you've ever had any immigration or citizenship status in a country other than Canada.

4) The answer is the same as the answer to the question above.
