BTW, you don't have to pay for the hotel as per many travelers returning. You don't have to buy a service involuntarily. As reported you can say that you aren't against self-quarantine, but don't have the extra means to pay for it. Canada, i.e. tax-payers would have to pay for it. Haven't tried that, but that's what I'm reading on social media... weird times, weird measures...
Speaking of Ontario, you are very well in your authority to deny quarantining in the hotel. Its $880 fine for this and not any bill for tax payer. Honestly, i dont have personal experience in this and my information is based on news articles that were reported. Now, i flew in under the umbrella of the rule: FYI: If you are flying-in, airlines wont even issue a boarding pass if you don't show confirmation of booking.

Now, coming-in via land border, its another story and I have no experience in this route.

Interview went straightforward, smooth and quick. Had most nervousness for this part however turned out to be best part when officer says congratulations , wait for oath. :)

Why is it a big deal to be in Canada for the test and oath? Not suggesting anybody break the law, but I'm genuinely curious if there's a reason other than "it's the law".

Online tests might go away thanks to people who are trying to cheat the system.. if someone doesn’t understand why it’s such a big deal to be in Canada for the test & oath they clearly don’t understand culture & rights of this country.. being Canadian is just not getting a passport to travel it has so much more meaning.. I really hope people respect the process more.

Very good question and I have the same question. My guess: Canada (by citizenship law) can only naturalize citizens in the land of Canada. Before COVID, the only place where citizenship is granted is inside Canada, Even embassies, they cant grant citizenship but can recognize citizenship based on the parents/grandparents route to Canada. My other point is when you leave Canada, IRCC has an exit time stamp against your name and if naturalized outside the country, you immigration status is changing with an exit stamp. The system is not built to take up that change. Canada has no history of changing immigration status of anyone after they left the country. Even as PR, if you fall outside RO obligations, they have to let you in and then they will follow-up and possibly revoke the status.

There might be legal and technical hurdles for this to get naturalized outside Canada. Now, i don't have a clue on why Canada does not allow citizenship testing outside the country!!

Just that: a requirement for citizenship just like having English/French, tax info, name, education, employment info, taking test etc. Part of the package but you can do a research as to why it’s required. I wonder if other G7 countries require same too.

They just linked it to regular pre-covid interview page. That's it. Most of pre-covid interviews were anyway just formal way of conveying the results anyway.
Does anyone know are the interviews online as well over a zoom as well as the test? How do they do it
