I agree!New hotel quarantine rules are just a joke. Failed policies and processes. Just complete failure. Height of peak immaturity. Clowns.
Agree, bad implementation. But explain to me - how do you reckon government is making money off this?I agree!
This is another way of the government to make money off the travellers. I heard it’s failing.
In this new rules of quarantine at a hotel in 4 major cities you’re paying more than $400 per person for a room and if you’re family of 4 in a same room it’s 4x400=1600 per night and on top of that if you get your results negative for COVID-19 in 72 hrs or less you still have to pay for full 3 days even if you check out earlier. I understand the government is taking precautions that no one should travel outside of Canada but if you’re coming into the country you’ve to get a negative test 72 hrs prior and then again you’ll be tested at the airport. However, you pay taxes on the hotel rooms 13%-15% depending on the province and that is how government is making money on a regular room which cost somewhere between $150-$250 per night and accommodate 4 ppl easily.Agree, bad implementation. The government has not set the price. I guess after seeing the demand hotel owners saw this as an opportunity and started charging more. Though government can set the price (based on the level of the hotel) to be fixed but so far there is no indication that they plan to do so.In this new rules of quarantine at a hotel in 4 major cities you’re paying more than $400 per person for a room and if you’re family of 4 in a same room it’s 4x400=1600 per night and on top of that if you get your results negative for COVID-19 in 72 hrs or less you still have to pay for full 3 days even if you check out earlier. Laughable that the government would go to all that trouble to collect GST on some hotel rooms. If the goal was just to collect more GST, remove the travel restrictions entirely, fill those hotels _and all the other ones_ and get even more money. However, you pay taxes on the hotel rooms 13%-15% depending on the province and that is how government is making money on a regular room
HKVO has asked me to show proof me and my wife will leave China. What did you show them?received pre-arrival services letter from HKVO today
Taxes are paid on all the rooms not only those under quarantine rules. I am not going to argue here about how government collects money. I just said it in general. Also there is a link I shared above in which local news wrote an article regarding the quarantine issues.Laughable that the government would go to all that trouble to collect GST on some hotel rooms. It's absurd. Not remotely credible.
That's my point - the argument that government would impose quarantine rules in hotels just to collect GST is laughably silly.Taxes are paid on all the rooms not only those under quarantine rules. I would rather the govt ship me to a military camp with a 3-days pack of ration than pay this ridiculous price
