Keep in mind that the amount of people on this forum and on the spreadsheet are less than 1% of the total applications. (there are about 5,000 to 6,000 average applicants every month and the spreadsheets show maybe 100-200 (ish) per month with both inland and outland....) Just because it shows you one thing may not be the whole picture of what is going on. Sure it helps, but it is not the whole picture.

It might be 1% or 10%. We do not know. The tracker has historically been able to give a good estimate of timelines - and if 63% of December applicants have AORs vs 0% of October or 13% of September, that in itself is explanation enough.
True, it may be more because we do not know how many applied vs. how many are on the spreadsheet, and it has been a pretty good picture of what has happened in the past, but looking at old data and the number of approved applicants from previous years, saying less than 1% is a reasonable guess. Keep in mind that they probably have thousands of backlog applications piled up after doing so little for months and months and are probably grabbing the easiest ones to get to at the moment.
Also, @AmyL , I believe you are a January 2021 applicant? So I can see why it is easy for you to make sense of this(have seen you provide explanations on different threads) given you haven't been one of those effected. I am sure you would have a slightly different way of expressing had you seen April 2021 and May 2021 get AORs before you.
I have also said that I don't think it is right and that they should have had a better system in place. Yes, I got AOR1 after just a month, so I got lucky there, but I have no belief that I will skate through the next parts because others got their AOR and had to wait a few months for SA.... so we shall see there.... However, I have had to wait over 2 years just to send it off. We were going to apply in March/April but with COVID, we decided to wait. Prior to that, we had to wait 10 months for our marriage certificate... had to track down the Bishop that had performed the ceremony, which had moved out of the country, in order to get him to resign a new document and get witnesses, etc. to resubmit to Ontario to get it done. Then we had to get updated driver's license and passport to reflect the name change while juggling a visit during Christmas... I have had my share of waiting.
I am sorry that you had to wait that long to apply. However, as far as processing is concerned, at no point should a Jan 21 applicant receive AOR prior to a June 2020 applicant etc. That is the part that is concerning applicants.
hmmm, it doesn't need to 100% to draw conclusions from the data we have. Just like how political polls can be relatively accurate based on a small percentage of the population. Nobody from January should receive AOR before everybody from December has and down the line.
We all have our own stories about the time it took us to prepare the application, that has nothing to do with the fairness of the process. You getting AOR after a month when I've been waiting 6 is infuriating.
I get that. I would be too. Honestly, I didn't expect to get mine until at least April.
But I also did not expect anything to happen during the pandemic either. Which is why I waited when it hit in March. Government buildings were shut down and things were at a stand still. Did not make much sense to me to send it in at that time just to collect dust.
I just had another thought. I am now wondering is any of the applications are being done because of their intended jobs. There was something on the website about expediting people from essential fields, so maybe that is why some are going faster. I happen to be in one of those fields. Just a thought.
I don't think that's related given that AOR just means they have opened you application and started it. I think this is a simple case of mismanagement.
There is no doubt there that there is mismanagement. Priorities are very skewed if they are letting workers come in after 6 weeks, but making spouses wait for 12 months or more. It is crazy. Like I said in another post, they have piles of these things and did not pay attention to how they stacked them or stored them. I also do not understand why so much more scrutiny is given to spouses. In their own documentation, they say that they denied only a small fraction of applicants. How can you really prove marriage fraud? I watched a few seasons of Married at First Sight, and those couples looked like they were legit in those photos, but they had just met. It is not hard to fake some texts and pictures.
