I think that @canuck78 may be interpreting a statement from government earlier - if you have symptoms you are not to use any kind of public transport to go to your quarantine location. If you do not have symptoms (despite the documented proof of aysmptomatic spread) you are to use acceptable transport, while maintaining social distance, to go to your quarantine location.
I think some are spending too much time on interpretation and semantics, whereas others are just trying to figure out a way
to be reunited with their families. I'm sure " most " want to follow the rules and do the right thing in order to keep Canadians safe!
It may be a little difficult if English/French is not your native language.

Maybe the rules are in your province. but why you would risk others safety knowing that covid can be contagious before being symptomatic boggles my mind and shows why we have problems growth community spread.

I don't agree with the rules very much, but the page you linked offers two scenarios when it comes to "getting to your place of quarantine."

One is without symptoms (can be understood now to be 'with a negative test,' though after Feb 22 this would be 'after your 3-day hotel quarantine') - this says you just need to wear a mask and maintain social distancing, but you can just go to your place of quarantine.

One with with symptoms - this one clearly says you cannot take public transit, rideshare, or taxi.

Now, the rules are stupid, but it doesn't change the fact that if you have no symptoms, the official rules don't tell you that you cannot take public transit. And those are the federal rules.

The fact is many Canadians have essential reasons for travel. Those travelling to reunite with a spouse, an ailing relative or to access medical treatment should not be faced with what is an insurmountable barrier for many in these situations. Your government recognized this principle when you made an exemption for athletes, citing affordability concerns," she wrote in an open letter to Hajdu on Thursday.

Rempel Garner is asking for exemptions for unaccompanied minors, family reunification, Canadians needing non-elective medical procedures abroad and others travelling on "compassionate" grounds.

"It is shameful to saddle those who must travel to support family and loved ones abroad affected by end-of-life or medical emergencies with a $2,000 bill. People who are travelling for this purpose should be allowed to quarantine at home, in compliance with pre- and post-arrival testing requirements," she wrote.

Rempel Garner commutes to Oklahoma to be with her husband. She has publicly called on the Governor of Oklahoma to institute strict COVID restrictions while complaining about Canada's restrictions. She doesn't want to be stuck with the hotel bill when she commutes.

I feel sorry for people who legitimately are separated from their families, but an MP advocating for an exemption to a health rule that she will personally benefit from...I don't know.

Every region is able to add additional public health rules. Check your area although many people are asked by CBSA on arrival about how they are getting home and are told not to take public transportation. I am not sure who was consulted with any of these rules because most of them break basic public health principle based on what we know about covid. They have gotten slightly better but some provinces have seen all the gaps and now intervene. The Maritimes have not been perfect but after NS realized that the rules weren't clear they actually started specifying that isolation means only remaining with those you have been travelling for 14 days in a separate home/hotel/airbnb. The outbreak at Roberta LTC proves why the federal government published quarantine rules make no sense. I wonder if Dr Tam or other public health officers even read the website? Would imagine most would be outraged.

I tell everyone that quarantine rules in place are not effective and to trust nobody.

Are you kidding? The government's big plan is to test people on the day they travel, wait for them to incubate for 3 days... and then let them get back on the plane to their final destination! :D

ok, but have seen some comments in this thread saying they were allowed to quarantine at home. Are immigration officers choosing who has to stay at hotel and who can go ?
The new restrictions take effect February 22. You missed the deadline, friend.

You will need to pay 2000$ to wait 3 days for the test to clear, and then you will quarantine at home for the remainder of the 14 days.
