Human rights? If you look at their cases they are a very conservative Christian group that doesn't believe in public health. Almost all their current cases involve churches who refuse to close and observe public health guidelines, the pro-life movement, fighting against the teaching of anything but the conservative family values as well as any form of sexual education, etc. The only human rights they are fighting for are for the very right wing Christian conservative causes.
But people have the right to believe what they want and exercise their beliefs. As long as they are not forcing them on anybody. If they believe sex education is not for their children, that's their right to exercise this belief.

You are right, they are allowed to express their ideas. But there is a difference between doing that and proclaiming all the things they are going to do. They proclaim many many things but not many of them result in anything being done or accomplished. Hence the comments that they are all just hot air.

I don't know enough about them so I have no opinion one way or the other.

By supporting people not masking and gathering during a pandemic they are putting others at risk. Would add that I have a hard time believing this group would take on the cause of a mosque who didn't want to obey public health guidelines or teaching about other religions, atheism, evolution, etc. in school.

Sex education is in place to protect children and young adults as well as to give them information. It is shocking how little some children know about basic anatomy. Unfortunately if you don't educate children you leave them open to be abused, to feel shame, to get pregnant, to be taken advantage of, etc. This is especially important for girls and young women. Most who protest about removing sex education from the curriculum and preach that sex ed should come from the parents do not actually give their children information st home. Essentially the women are told to remain pure until marriage, limited to female friendships with limited social lives outside the home and often get married early. The men often get educated through pornography and are encouraged to have sex with whomever they want except the girls in their own community. This sets up a very unhealthy relationship and view of sex and relationships in my opinion. Just on this forum I have seen a very large amount of STIs being discovered when men do their medicals. Many of the people lobbying to make sure an age appropriate sex education curriculum remains in schools are adults who grew up without any sex education and feel like they needed more information growing up and got no information at home. I'm all for adults exercising their beliefs but not when it negatively impacts children.

It's clear that eventually they will bring in something like this. But frankly there are a lot of issues and details and too early to finalize.

It will be a key step when there are large percentages of population in different countries that are vaccinated.

And I am open for betting that there will still be massive complaints and campaigns saying its a disaster, whatever they do.
Yes and today the US just announced if you have 2 doses of the vaccine you don't need to quarantine for 2 weeks.

The US hasn't been the model for covid response so wouldn't count on same policies coming to Canada especially right away. Vaccine isn't effective right away and it is still unclear what vaccines cover which variants. Will they be looking at when you got vaccinated and what type of vaccine?

While it is true that the vaccine is not a 100% guarantee, the virus does not transmit in a vacuum. You spread it via droplets (coughing, etc...) with a high viral load. No symptoms, low viral load = low chance of spread. The vaccine severely reduces the ability of the vaccine to multiply inside of you. If your viral load is low, and you have no symptoms, it's almost impossible to infect another.

The Moderna and Pfizer vaccine work by targeting a specific part of the virus which has not changed in the new variants. Early data shows that the vaccine is effective against them, though of course it can only be conclusive by a phase 3 clinical trial, and that's almost impossible to do under controlled conditions right now.

Asymptomatic infections for the vaccine are very very low - 0.1% for the moderna vaccine as per their clinical trial.

Yes, there could be new mutations we don't know about. Yes, it's still possible to be infected while on the vaccine (though 1/20 as likely). Yes, there is never any 100% guarantee. But the vaccine severely reduces the odds. It's not logical to completely ignore that in crafting public policy, not anymore than it is logical to ignore other transmission risk factors.

The only reason Canada has so far, is because the vaccination rates are so low, that there is no reason to come up with rules treating vaccinated vs non-vaccinated differently. But as the vaccination rate increases, that will change.

Some issues with the data regarding post-vaccine transmission is also due to the fact that the studies only examined period between first and second dose.....as the previous poster notes, with more information/data it will become clearer that full vaccination does indeed stem the transmission of the virus. Here's a good overview of we were currently know and don't know...BBC Future: Can you still transmit Covid-19 after vaccination?

I'm fortunate and will get my second dose of Pfizer next week in US. Planning to get PCR tested and quarantine for 14 days once I return (via land) to BC in early March.

We are going to be in ' travel restriction mode ' for some time while little Trudeau
gets desperate making empty promises for vaccines from other countries.

Looking forward to herd immunity.

Congrats on taking the chance and booking a flight. Hope it all goes well for your spouse.

I'm sure her experience landing will be useful to others.
To update......

My wife flew in from Colombia yesterday afternoon. Other than the typical harassment at the Bogota airport to board the plane, all went well.

Landed at Pearson 30 minutes ahead of schedule, went straight to Immigration where they processed her COPR and got her PR card request submitted. Asked the expected quarantine questions after reviewing her ArriveCan info.
On her way to the covid testing area. They had staff to do the test. NOT self administered as advertised. Received a follow up email to say results will be sent within 2 days.

From leaving the plane to walking out to me meet was 1 hour! Her plane was approximately 1/8 full. Reminder, this is one of the 17 routes being put on hold by Air Canada next week after Rouge already shut down.

Our AOR1 Was Sept 30, 2019, Decision Made was Oct 2020, Landed in Canada Feb 10, 2021. We're reunited after 11 months apart when covid hit. Now we're together forever.

Of course, the vaccine is no excuse not to wear the mask. Wearing the mask is not an undue hardship on anyone.

But 14 days of quarantine and lost income certainly is, and if the risk is massively reduced with a vaccine, it may make sense to not require it as often.
