Congrats on taking the chance and booking a flight. Hope it all goes well for your spouse. What the feds have said, is that you must reserve this mandatory hotel stay prior to your travel home and show proof before boarding. I would assume that if you can't book it, you can't fly. Details of this fiasco would help, but alas, as of February 8th, there is still only wild speculation.
I started this thread not to get into political pissing matches like some of you have, but to keep people informed as those details are up to date.
Selfishly it was to crowd source info so I knew what steps to take to get my wife here on her COPR before this took effect. She flies from Colombia on Wednesday. I booked this flight 2 days after the gov't announced this change and gambled that they wouldn't be ready. Little did I know how ill-prepared they were but no regrets. I finally get to see my wife after a year and can start a new life together. Those that want to criticize people for flying in a pandemic don't know what it's like to go through a visa process for over a year and then forced to wait even longer apart because of a worldwide pandemic.
Please be civil here. We come to this forum for information to assist us in trying times. Be kind.
It's clear that eventually they will bring in something like this. But frankly there are a lot of issues and details and too early to finalize.Yes, but with 90% immunity you would think getting testing before you fly and again when you land and maybe 5 days later again would be more than sufficient. I know of some European countries like Estonia that waive the 2-week quarantine if you have proof you had the vaccine.
I'll be sure to pass along what she experiences.Congrats on taking the chance and booking a flight. Hope it all goes well for your spouse.
I'm sure her experience landing will be useful to others.
Self-administered testing, interesting.I'll be sure to pass along what she experiences.
I did find out one fact in preparation for the mandatory provincial COVID test in Toronto when she gets off the plane...(this will change when the federal 3 day quarantine plan takes effect)
From the site:
"At the testing area, you will self-administer your test under the supervision of a Switch Health tele-nurse. The Switch Health staff will link your test sample to your Switch Health profile. After completing your test, you must immediately proceed to your quarantine location. "

When I came from Jamaica last month they had that same note but they had done the test for me regardless. So not sure if it's changed but you can't trust everything they write on that site... UnfortunatelySelf-administered testing, interesting.
Along with new measures at the land border crossings starting Feb 15.Just an FYI as of this afternoon, Air Canada has shut down 17 additional routes as of next week after shutting down all Rouge flights last week.
At this rate there will barely be any passengers to quarantine for a 3 day $2k stay!!

Route suspensions
The airline is also shutting down service on 17 more routes starting next week including:
- Toronto to Fort Myers, Fla.
- Toronto to Boston.
- Toronto to Washington, D.C. (Reagan)
- Toronto to Denver
- Toronto to New York City (LaGuardia)
- Montreal to Boston.
- Montreal to LaGuardia.
- Vancouver to Seattle.
- Toronto to Bogotá, Colombia.
- Toronto to Dubai.
- Toronto to São Paulo, Brazil.
- Toronto to Hong Kong.
- Toronto to Tel Aviv, Israel.
- Montreal to Bogotá, Colombia.
- Vancouver to London, U.K.
- Vancouver to Tokyo (Narita).
- Toronto to Dublin, Ireland.
That's the point. If the world stopped travelling a pandemic would be much easier to be contain. One reason China has not seen huge outbreaks. Not saying I support the CCP but they have the power to shut down travel.Just an FYI as of this afternoon, Air Canada has shut down 17 additional routes as of next week after shutting down all Rouge flights last week.

I hope I can see my husband in October, our plans cancelled twice...it will be 18 months by that time. I am happy for you. What the feds have said, is that you must reserve this mandatory hotel stay prior to your travel home and show proof before boarding. How can you back up that they believe in that ? I checked them out and read about them online. They are highly educated people, certainly not idiots. They care about human rights...What's the point of exaggerating what they believe? The guys who run this site are idiots. They are the kind of individuals who believe in lizard people and laser beams from space.
It's not worth your time to even read this web site. It's complete garbage.
Unfortunately these types of groups are thriving during a pandemic. How can you back up that they believe in that ? I checked them out and read about them online. They are highly educated people, certainly not idiots. They care about human rights...What's the point of exaggerating what they believe?
Human rights? If you look at their cases they are a very conservative Christian group that doesn't believe in public health. Almost all their current cases involve churches who refuse to close and observe public health guidelines, the pro-life movement, fighting against the teaching of anything but the conservative family values as well as any form of sexual education, etc. The only human rights they are fighting for are for the very right wing Christian conservative causes. How can you back up that they believe in that ?
