One possibility would be to waive the fees for people travelling for non-discretionary reasons. That way it would only apply to people travelling for discretionary reasons.

I could easily show my work visa and termination letter to show that my travel home is non-optional. People popping in Mexico for a vacation could not.

Unfortunately, non-essential travel actually includes non-optional travel, or it has so far. I don't hold much hope - further statements stressed there would be "very few exceptions".

Again, no details have been released. It's impossible to say if one kind of travel is included or not since they haven't written anything.

International travellers *themselves* are less than 2% of cases. That means that of each flight that comes to Canada - say a 300-person Boeing 777ER; six people on that flight are positive.

They then come home and ignore quarantine requirements, go shopping wearing masks around their chins, and tell people that staying 2 meters apart is a cult. Those people then infect 2-3 people each. Then the people the travellers infected go on to host 100-person parties in penthouses in Vancouver, or go to school and teach classes of 30 students who, for some reason, are not required to wear masks. They each infect 2-3 people...

That's why it's a problem. The South Africa and UK variants that are blasting Alberta right now didn't come from someone who hadn't travelled.

If 99% of the 48,682 interventions were compliant, I believe it's a fair statistic that even those who didn't receive house calls or phone calls were also compliant.

Anyone like me who's been a recluse all this time just waiting for months to finally have my spouse and a baby to finally be able to travel and quarantine in a sanitized apartment, have to see them held captive in a capsule instead and also pay for it is hard pill to swallow I hope they make a policy to contact the sponsor to qualify or disqualify them first before generalizing like this and enforcing on everyone.. This is bizzare

Still puzzled as to why quarantine with non-travellers is allowed. It just risks infecting more people and is public health 101. Having people quarantine in hotels makes sure people are at least negative before quarantining with non-travelling family members which is extremely common. It is still unclear what public health will require but there is a mention that quarantine plans will be reviewed more in depth to see if they are suitable. In other countries with more successful policies you quarantine without any non-travellers.

I read the news daily and there is too much to keep up on. I am really tired of keeping up.... I am just waiting for all this to end so I can see my husband again.

This still means whole households would be infected. If true quarantine rules were being implemented travellers would quarantine alone and would not be able to infect households. There have been quite a few infections including the recent explosion of UK variant in Barrie Ontario that was due to a close contact of a traveller.

At the end of the day what I believe or you believe, matters not. The government will make their decisions on these stats, so that's all we have to go.

We could ask the same...why these strict hotel quarantines when less than 2% of covid cases are from international travel? This has even been shared by the prime minister.

So again, they will do whatever it makes them look like they are doing everything to "protect the public" even if it makes no sense to us. As Canadians...that's what we do...obey like good children. That's the difference between American and Canadian citizens. We put all our trust in our "faithful leaders."

I just see the government mismanage and everyone following along doing as we're told..and yet there is no end in sight.
