I dont think anyone will protest, and if they do, they will have no public sympathy. Travelers might as well be convicts right now, they can be treated any which way and people wont care.
People object to the current rules and aren’t following them so I would think people would file privacy concerns about trackers. One of the reason hotel quarantine makes sense.
For this to work, the hotel should use their resources to comply with government policies - for example quarantinees who are non compliance will be reported to the police.
I would look at both Australia and New Zealand. It is essentially a nice prison where people must stay in their room, have scheduled outdoor time and are not able to leave the premises until the 14 days are over. There are fences around the premises and security. Military barracks and work camps have also been used.
I don't know what you think you're quoting but that information is not on either of those pages. Both do advise against using public transit if you are symptomatic or sick and that makes perfect sense. As far as I'm concerned, until the official government guidance specifically stipulates that something is against the law then people are doing nothing by using public transportation to travel to their place of quarantine.
There is a difference between quarantine and isolation and unfortunately I think people all too often use both terms interchangeably.
You can spread covid even if you are asymptomatic. Glad that new rules are coming so people will h e no option but to go straight to a quarantine hotel.
Maybe you'd like it even more if everyone was sent over to Guantanamo for 2 weeks?
Personally I find the idea of mandatory quarantine hotels to be offensive. Canada is supposed to be a country of liberal values and still accepts new immigrants and refugees every single day. To greet those people with "welcome to Canada. Now if you'll just follow this guy in a uniform, we are going to lock you in a hotel room for 2 weeks. Oh and by the way, this is going to cost you 2 grand" seems insensitive and profoundly wrong.
Yes it is how countries like Australia and Singapore behave but those countries don't pretend to be caring and welcoming to the poor, desperate and needy in the way that Canada does.
Let’s not get ridiculous. The spread of the UK variant multiple times has been traced back to people who were associating with people who were in Quarantine. People were given the opportunity to follow the quarantine rules and the majority did but by estimates 25% didn’t so stronger measures are needed. Canadians will also be forced to go into hotel quarantine so it is to a discriminatory policy. Is someone dying because someone gave them covid right? What about businesses that have been forced to closed while people keep travelling is that right? Canada is thinking of the poor and desperate when bringing in these rules. Many business owners and unemployed people are poor and desperate within Canada. Canada can’t help people abroad if we can’t get our economy back.
People traveling have nothing to do with businesses being forced to closed. Look at cinemas and theartres forced to closed, while restaurants, shopping malls and bars can still open for business.
What about our two Michaels? They are locked up in China even before the pandemic began.
Canada is doing no such thing. Canada is trying to prop up its own hotel industry by forcing travellers to fund it rather than a government bailout.
72 hours in an airport hotel plus a PCR test is not 2 grand well spent by anyone's viewpoint and how would you enforce that on refugees or those returning Canadians who can't afford it? Not to mention, the idea of spending the remaining 11 days in a "government facility" if you're unfortunate enough to test positive upon arrival sounds absolutely terrifying.

People travelling and not quarantine leads to more infections and higher covid numbers. In order for businesses to reopen we must get are covid levels down. If you look at the countries that have strict quarantine protocols they have been able to minimize businesses closing. Sure if you were part of the huge explosion of covid cases, including deaths, due to a UK traveller with the mutation you may feel differently.
If you think the quarantine hotels are going to prop up the hotel industry you must be doing some pretty crazy calculations. Some hotels at the airport in 4 cities is not propping up the hotel industry. The cost is mainly because of the extra security needed to make sure people remain in their rooms, there are extra cleaning measures that will be required and extra protection needed for the hotel staff. There are also food and transportation costs to get to the hotel. The majority of people don’t need to travel, don’t need to visit Canada, etc. If you make the decision to travel there will be monetary consequences. If you can’t afford it you shouldn’t travel. There are very few refugees arriving in Canada due to the travel restrictions and changes when it comes to claiming asylum by land. Canada’s government’s responsibility is to the people living in Canada first. Based on mobile data at least 25% of people weren’t following quarantine rules and were quarantining with non-travellers potentially creating more patients. If everyone had been following quarantine, quarantining alone and only travelling when absolutely necessary these rules may not be necessary. These rules were put in place to protect the people living in Canada, the health system and to try to reduce cases so schools and businesses can open.
