People travelling and not quarantine leads to more infections and higher covid numbers. In order for businesses to reopen we must get are covid levels down. If you look at the countries that have strict quarantine protocols they have been able to minimize businesses closing. Sure if you were part of the huge explosion of covid cases, including deaths, due to a UK traveller with the mutation you may feel differently.

Then there must be an explanation why people cannot dine in Ontario, whereas in BC, we can go to restaurants and dine at their premises. Whereas in AB, gyms are currently closed and BC residents can still go exercise in gyms.

Less travel into B.C. is likely one of the factors. BC has a smaller population size than other provinces. The traffic into places like Toronto can’t be compared to Vancouver. BC residents seem to be less resistent to mask wearing versus some other provinces. Most of Asia doesn’t have as a high covid rates as places like Europe so travellers heading to Vancouver are probably less likely to be bringing covid into BC. I also personally think that the public health officials are not as strong in Ontario versus the public health officials of other provinces. Although we are one country every province is very different, governed differently and with different health systems.

That's the main thing.

If comparing to places like Toronto and Montreal there is less manufacturing, large warehouses, more, people, more traffic from all over the world, letc. If comparing to places like Alberta mask wearing is likely the bigger difference.

I have no issue about giving a PCR test before setting off and then on arrival and being detained in a hotel until the results.

I think I would be climbing the walls if stuck in a hotel room for 14 days but 2-3 days I can live with.

At least after 2 tests nearly a week apart, i would be fairly confident I didn't arrive with COVID. Just need to make sure that I didn't catch it from any Canadians afterwards :D

In any case, you do not need to travel to your place of quarantine in a private vehicle if you are asymptomatic. Even the official guidance for ArriveCAN states that.

Travellers must go directly to their place of quarantine or isolation immediately and stay there for the duration of their quarantine or isolation. While in transit, you must:

  • practise physical distancing of 2 metres at all times
  • avoid stops and contact with others while in transit
  • if you have symptoms, use a private vehicle only, and don’t use public transportation such as aircraft, taxis or ride-share services
  • if you don’t have symptoms, use a private vehicle if possible
  • pay at the pump for gas and use drive through when you need food
  • wear a suitable non-medical mask at all times, unless you’re alone in a private vehicle
Some provinces and territories have additional travel restrictions. For example, no non-essential travel into the province or limited access to certain regions. If federal and provincial or territorial guidelines differ, follow the strictest requirements.

And the winner for the most ridiculous post on this topic goes too.......
Everyone slow clap
( The Government should of done this a year ago, simple as that . )

In what regard? Recent data suggested quarantine compliance levels are extremely high in Canada and entry is restricted only to Canadians and a very limited number of foreigners. International travel counts for a very limited percentage of infections. International travellers are a very easy target group for the government though, especially those arriving by air. It's unfortunate but does seem like they are using air arrivals as a scapegoat to cover up other failures in government policy.
