It is too early to call and find the status. A GU is an update to your application and it is difficult to speculate what it means.

The BGC refers to criminality and security. This is why the BGC status changes twice during the processing of the application. Since your AoR is November, it may be very likely that your criteria R10 is passed and criminality started..

Also, as per IRCC most recent update, IRCC is processing CEC applications with full capacity, all other streams will experience delays. As per IRCC's annual 2019 annual report it takes 8-9 months for an application to process, which IRCC already knew at the end of 2019, but continued to show 6 months average time frame.

Table 35 displays the time, in months, that IRCC took to process 80% of applications under each program. In 2019, IRCC did not meet the processing standard of finalizing 80% of all applications sourced via Express Entry within six months. The processing time for Express Entry, overall, was eight months. As an alternative measure of processing times, 60% of applications finalized in the 12-month period ending on December 31, 2019, were completed within the six-month service standard.

PNP is a different stream, even though it shares the eligibility characteristics with FSW only for MEC.

IRCC even lists the processing times for PNP separate from FSW and CEC.

As per IRCC's annual 2019 annual report it takes 9 months for a PNP application to process, which is at par with FSW, and this was pre-COVID.

I called the IRCC line yesterday and a grumpy old man picked up. He refused to inform me about the progress of my application and kept telling me to check my online portal and that all the info I need is there. Apparently he was quite pissed off from all of us calling in to check on the progress of our apps. This is only my 2nd time calling, first time around was 2 weeks ago and the agent that answered was super nice and helpful.

Any in-land applicants passed their eligility or saw a change in their online portal yet? I haven't and my eligiblity hasn't yet started, at least that's what I got from the agent that I called a couple of weeks ago.

I also got a Ghost Update where my background check went to in progress from we are processing.

Rely on what your GCMS notes say. Criminality can be pending when your biometrics have not yet been assessed by RCMP or if they have been, they have not yet been updated in your application. This will be available in your GCMS notes.

A GU is an update to your application and it is difficult to speculate what it means. Instead call IRCC, send a webform or request your GCMS notes to see what stage your application is at.

The BGC refers to criminality and security. This is why the BGC status changes twice during the processing of the application. Since your eligibility is passed, most likely your security has been initiated and that is why you see the status.

Steps in the biometrics process as of 2018

Step 1: Providing biometrics
By the end of 2018, all foreign nationals applying for a visitor visa, a work or study permit (except U.S. nationals), or permanent residence as well as all asylum seekers and refugee claimants will need to give their fingerprints and have their photo taken in addition to the personal information currently required.

Step 2: Applicant data transmission
Digital fingerprints will be sent electronically to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP); the photograph will be electronically stored in a database at Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC); and the personal information will be automatically entered into IRCC’s case-processing system. Files will be encrypted, transmitted and stored through secure means.

Step 3: Fingerprint check
The RCMP will check fingerprints against criminal, refugee claimant, deportee and temporary resident application records.

Step 4: Final decision
If the RCMP finds no adverse information concerning the applicant, the case officer will be notified electronically and will complete the processing of the application. Adverse or ambiguous information from the RCMP will be analysed by a central assessment unit managed by IRCC before being passed on to the migration officer for a final decision. After the final decision, the applicant’s personal information and photograph will be sent to the Canada Border Services Agency’s (CBSA) case-processing system.

Step 5: Identity verification
When a traveller or immigrant arrives at a Canadian port of entry (POE), the CBSA will verify that he/she is the same person to whom the visa or permit was issued. The photo taken abroad will be available for the border officer to visually compare with the person who appears at the POE.
At the major airports, fingerprints will be verified automatically at a primary inspection kiosk. At the additional airports and land ports of entry, discretionary fingerprint checks will be conducted by a border services officer upon referral to secondary inspection. In both instances, the traveller’s identity will be checked to make sure that the person who wants to enter Canada is the same person who was approved overseas.

I gave my biometrics a couple of weeks ago. The biometrics number has been added to my name and under my dependent as well but it’s still saying action is required and that they need my fingerprints. Will this automatically update after a period of time or do I need to do something?

Hi,

I had a similar issue after I gave my biometrics on December 22nd. I raised a query via the Web form end of December and today, I received the reply confirming that they got what they needed and that my application was being processed in Mexico.

So it seems that as long as the enrollment number is displayed for you (and your dependents), there is nothing to worry about.
