My spouse is to fill out the generic application. Under dependant - Do I leave it blank since no children? Should my spouse include me under that, even if I am the sponsor?

They are not his dependants. Their info should be in the additional family form.

As opposed to what? If you have no dependents, you're not required to add dependents. Leave it blank of course.
