So FUNNY response after waiting 26 months My Application is still in first step
Good day,
Thank you for contacting Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
Due to the ongoing situation related to the
novel coronavirus (COVID-19), some IRCC offices are currently operating with reduced or critical staff only.
We are working on processing applications as quickly as possible; however,
processing times are affected and any disruptions caused by COVID-19 may not be reflected accurately on our website. We will make all the necessary efforts to finalize your application as soon as possible.
Rest assured that you will be informed as soon as a decision is reached or if additional information is needed.
In the meantime, we would like to present you with useful information that will help you understand the current status of your application.
When you send an
Application for Permanent Residence in Canada - Protected Persons and Convention Refugees, the process is done in two steps:
- Step 1: Approval in Principle
The first step is to verify if you are eligible to apply for the permanent resident status as a protected person or convention refugee. If you meet the requirements, you will receive a letter stating that your application is approved in principle.
The second step is to see if you meet all the eligibility requirements to obtain the permanent residence. During this stage of the process, background and medical verifications are done for you and your dependent family members, if applicable.
Your application is currently in the first of the verification process. It means that:
- Your application was received at the Case Processing Centre in Mississauga (CPC-M), Ontario, on October 3, 2018.
- The next step will be to make a decision on your eligibility. Rest assured that we will communicate with you once it is available.
- The background verifications are currently in process.
- Your medical examination results on file are currently valid and you will be contacted if necessary.
The next step in the process will be to make a final decision in regards to the application. Rest assured that we will communicate with you once a decision has been reached in your file.
You may visit our
processing times page to find out how long it may take to process your application. However, the processing times indicated on our website are approximate, and can vary with each individual case.
We hope the information provided is helpful in assisting you with your enquiry.
We would also like to suggest the following online services that might be helpful to you with any immigration, refugee and/or citizenship future requests:
