I am so sick of it. Unfair world just makes me go insane more and more each day. I don’t even know if I’m gonna be able to see my family ever again. Even if I do, now I have so many chronic health conditions and all happened because of the intense stress I dealt with. I am so done with this system of injustice and cruelty.

Thank you so much..! I am with all of you guys as well. I have PR since 2016 and no, not refugee status or anything like that but still as long as I carry the passport of the country that I came from, there is no guarantee with anything. Expecially during this pandemic. And this pandemic is not gonna end soon. Vaccine doesn’t mean 2021 will be all pink dream. I am the last child of the family and only son. My mom is above 70 years old and my dad is close to 80 and got pheumonia a few weeks ago and he is still sick. I’m scared expecially because of my mom. I am all alone in Canada and I knew it would be so tough to start a new life. I worked so hard and was extremely patient. 2020 was the year for me. I worked so hard to make this country my new home. Applied for my citizenship. One day later I started to get some health problems and then pandemic started. My health problems got me so messed up for months and it has been a rollercoaster. Now I am better with physiotherapy etc but living with some nightmare situations. Intense stress and anxiety is coming from deep inside. When I see people attacking immigrants who want to be a citizen, I get so pissed because believe it or not people, in the past, those millions of Canadians were also immigrants from other countries! Home is where you feel safe. My home is here..

You are right to take this ultimate precaution, even if it can be painful in the case of the loss of a loved one ... I have the same philosophy, I consider the status of permanent resident as an ejection seat: No guarantee. ..

Unfortunately we have to accept this and take this precaution ... Or run the risk that several years of patience and pain will go into the air, for nothing ...

An actual example ... which I will simply take from one of my very first posts in this thread:

- The covid pandemic has shown us that having consular assistance from a civilized country is important in the event of repatriation ... I followed the news carefully, especially that of a friend stuck in an African country: Canadian Embassy in this African country that I will not quote has clearly posted in its official facebook page, announcing a repatriation flight, that the people who will be prioritized in order are: Canadian citizens, and then permanent residents s 'there is room on the plane !! … Now imagine that you are stuck in a country where you are visiting (not just for a health emergency, but for any other reason), far from your children and your family here in Canada… Just imagine the stress you will have in the event repatriation !! ...

Conclusion: Unless you already have a passport from a civilized country (European for example) which protects you, and which will allow you to return to Canada without any problem ...

DO NOT TAKE THE RISK OF TRAVELING UNTIL YOU HAVE YOUR CANADIAN CITIZENSHIP.

You will have no protection or consular assistance from Canada, and no right of repatriation in the event of a problem. No guarantee.

The friend in question that I had mentioned was stuck for several months in a third world country, and his landlord constantly threatened him with whatapp to throw his things out in order to quickly find another tenant (Which is catastrophic especially in the case of the housing shortage in Montreal, he ended up making arrangements with him by making bank transfers), had to suplier to keep his job, and almost lost his provincial health protection RAMQ because of the obligation of residence in Quebec to maintain health insurance ... But fortunately for him that he was able to return only a few days before the deadline.

Not to mention the stress of the 14 days of mandatory quarantine, and all the stress and fears ...

What can I say..? I can put my signature under your statement sir. I didn’t go through years of pain and patience for nothing... One part of me is sad and mad because of my health. I am so mad because I have nightmare health conditions but still go to work and risk my health every single day. However, when it comes to take those 20 questions, I can’t take it because of pandemic. I hate double standard, I hate injustice. I moved to Canada in the first place because of human rights, freedom and JUSTICE.

Both PRs and citizens had access to repatriation flights if they were offered by Canada. Please stop scaring people for no reason. PRs can travel out of Canada if necessary although due to the pandemic it is not recommended. Anyone travelling during a pandemic needs to be prepared for the possibility of getting stuck abroad. The situation described above has nothing to do with being a PR. If a Canadian citizen was out of Canada and the country they were in went into lockdown and they couldn't return their landlord in Canada would want to be paid and if they didn't meet their RO to retain their provincial healthcare they would need to reapply. If you were a citizen the government wouldn't pay your rent or not apply the RO for healthcare.

You are free to travel to see your family as a PR. You face no travel restrictions to return to Canada.

This is maybe true on paper but not always the case in real life, I am saying this by experience. My cousin ( a PR ) was stuck outside during the lockdown, he called the near Canadian embassy to check for any available repatriation flights. He was clearly told that they are prioritizing Canadian citizens first and if they have any free seats they will call him back. He waited for that call and it never happened, he came back to Canada by his own means in August.
