I have been fed up as well waiting for tests to begin when the whole world has opened up - scools, universities , companies either online or in person. Have been tweeting to IRCC and immigration minister Marco Mendicino about this .

as Biden said "will you shut up man!"
We know things are hard for all of us, but please refrain from picking fights and insulting other posters. Please try to leave a constructive post to add value or move on.

On topic, this is a sensitive issue, they either have to do remote tests otherwise physical tests are risky for them in case of an outbreak happening in one of their centers. Its a massive responsibility no one in government wants to take (can be sort of a political suicide). However, somehow I'm hopeful in few months the whole pandemic situation is going to improve, as the number of deaths are way lower than before regardless on being on second wave, and therefore I'm expecting all activities such as citizenship and immigration ceremonies to be resumed soon. (hopefully)

Hey Marooned2. Thanks for your constructive message. I fully support and encourage fellow posters to have a respectful dialogue.

Regarding your point about the pandemic situation improving. Unfortunately, it seems like it's going to get a lot worse in the next few months. Especially as schools stay open and we keep indoors in confined spaces during winter. The best predictive models are predicting a surge of infections far more than the March outbreak. See https://covid19.healthdata.org/canada?view=infections-testing&tab=trend&test=infections . This is not fake news but comes from our planet's best modeling efforts. You can learn more about the models here.

The takeaway is that the government will have its hands full in a matter of a few months if not weeks. So the time to act is now and make *some* progress towards restarting citizenship tests. Lest we spend another year in limbo while the application load keeps stacking up to unsustainable levels.

Today, i heard in the Radio that Quebec province has conducted all the juridical trials (Legal hearings) virtually via Teams and Zoom since few months.
It seems that it was so efficient as they have been able to schedule more sessions comparing to the physical trials prior the pandemic.
One of the questions raised by the journalist to a legal consular is how judge make sure that the confidentiality is respected and the defendant /Plaintiff identity is checked ? the answer was simple that the judge is asking prior starting to turn the camera 360 degree and they check identify documents
I believe IRCC could learn from this experience............ I don't think that Citizenship Tests are more sensitive and critical than a Legal matters

My friend did online exam for something technical where examiner ask for 360 degree view, ceiling, floor and mirror to inspect the computer keyboard. Thats it. !!! Nothing complicated. Exam is very effective and practical. We NEED to adapt to the new normal and move on . Everything else remains open. I don’t understand.

The reality is everything is more efficient online!!! No need for long queues or waiting in room with other people.. commuting !!! We should be able to work, study, make appointments online ,,, even post covid.

I don't believe that IRCC is not moving towards online tests because of cheating or technicalities. My analysis (personal opinion) is because they are taking advantage of the situation to keep getting paid and not work enough. They have that privilege, and they are milking it.

There has been a lot of discussion about online tests here, but not much about the interview itself. I'm not entirely familiar with the process, but wasn't it the case so far that after writing the test you would immediately have an interview with an officer where you could show any original documentation? Couldn't the problem be that IRCC wants to have the option to see original documents, and there is no point in just moving the tests online if you still need in person interviews?

I think they are working, with all the AORs, Virtual citizenship Oath, Spousal Sponsorship application and now the PGP sponsorship announced today. Its just that the citizenship test (being non-virtual) is not their priority unfortunately.

The newly introduced program only shows that we are going to be ignored probably forever. At this point I wouldn't even be surprised if they cancelled the whole citizenship program all together temporarily or maybe permanently. They are not even bringing it up. They had the time to introduce a totally new program (that's not really very critical) while the citizenship applications issue is not even being brought up.

They will not cancel as they need a lot of people. And lots of people are coming in through Express Entry etc etc. Just the citizenship process is stopped.
2022/2023 will be the year when we will be heard as that's the election time. And if the new government is conservatives then things will go real bad

I'm thinking of moving back to my home country for a while, it seems like there's not going to be citizenship tests soon and the pandemic situation in Canada is going to get worse in Winter.

I got AOR on Sept 10th.
