I will appreciate advise ; me and my wife are Canadian Citizens and would like to invite mother in law ( widowed ) for a short visit to Canada from India , Can we apply her temporary visa online from our IRCC account.

No she must apply and create her own account. You can help her apply for the TRV.

No, you have to create a separate account for your MIL and apply from that account. You may also need to create a new email ID for your MIL (if she doesn't have one) before you can open an new IRCC account for her.

Once you are able to open a new IRCC account for your MIL, you can basically upload all documents on her behalf and pay fees from Canada using a credit card after logging into her account.

Does IMM 5257 has to be 2020 Version or any version as I found from 2011 to 2019 versions.

I do not personally know the latest version of this form but general advice with IRCC is to always use the most current official version from IRCC website given IRCC have a habit of rejecting applications on old versions.

Just use the latest one. You will get a list of documents that need to be submitted with your application (after your online questionnaire) . Click on on the link and you will be taken to the latest available form.
