I did all the research necessary. If me and my boyfriend work on minimum wage in Alberta, even assuming we'll only get a total of 30h a week (instead of 40h), we still get around 3,000/month (after taxes). That is enough for us to maintain our current standard of living. Certainly we won't be able to safe for retirement, but besides that, we can definitely keep everything else unchanged. If we can both work 40h/week (4,000/month after taxes), then we can even get better standards of living than here in Brazil. Also, my boyfriend works for IT and I soon will too, so the prospect is that we'll be able to earn more than minimum wage as well within 12 months in Canada.Just warning you that on minimum wage you won’t be able to sustain the same lifestyle that you have right now especially in the cities. You have to take out taxes, healthcare does not cover all heathcare costs, not much saving on minimum wage, probably no vacations but maybe a flight, etc. Not discouraging you from moving to Canada just warning you that your budget calculations are not correct.
That certainly is not the case if you move to Toronto or Vancouver, where the minimum wage is less than $15, and you'll have to pay +2,000-2,500 month for a 1-bed apartment to live in downtown. But, I'm definitely not targeting these 2 cities, at all. I value my money!
