No. Approved permanent residents travelling from the USA have always been exempted from travel restrictions related to the date of issue of CoPR. Please see link below.

@padmavis1990 you may travel now but you have to travel before your CoPR’s expiry date. If you are unwilling to travel before the expiry date of your CoPR, you may apply for an extension. However, according to this thread, there have been few extensions processed since March, and extension processing dates are highly unpredictable.

IRCC, saying they will issue electronic authorization, but NDVO will most probably be asking for re medicals and re stamping (delaying and money making tactics), there goes the whole year !! I am quite sure IRCC in there minds are thinking of delaying, hoping the vaccine comes out !!!

Why do you always think so negative.Delhi high commision has told it will issue ETA.Why they will increase their work load by these tactics .Also Air Canada is operating three flight per week from 18th to 31 Aug .I just hope it continues in September too.This might make NDVO work faster.As availability of flights will be more.

Compared to other offices NDVO is the slowest to respond on anything, even during normal times !! (I have personal experience, had shifted my VO from abroad to NDVO, lets just say experience was a disaster at best) ! Availability of flights has nothing to do with NDVO opening early or not, frankly speaking flights are available although mainly VB !! 'Electronic authorization' , Why are they not able to give it in the past 3/6 months ? That so easy Any ways lets see if something moves this month !! There behavior is suspect

I have a 14 plan quarentine, but I`m planning to return just after my quarentine ends, since I can permanently settle in Canada right now. For this specific case, it would be ok for me to stay just a couple of days. Is it possible? I`m prepared for quarentine 14 days, but if possible I`d like to stay less time in Canada. Does anyone know anything about it?

Basically you have to stay at least 14 days in quarantine - you can stay longer if you wish.

I tried looking through all of it but could not find any answers to my question.

My brother submitted his application and received AOR on the 5th of December 2019. Since then they have been waiting and are not getting any updates from IRCC. First we thought it is because the VAC in Paris is closed, but it is now open and operational for over a month.

The reason for our concern is the expiry of of their medical in early November 2020, which is basically 2 months from now.

Is there anyone in a similar situation and what actions can we undertake to at least have IRCC look into this. We tried the web form and only got generic IRCC reply's.

Make some arrangements for your PR card as you would need it while flying back to Canada or you have to apply for PRTD Visa.

Landing for the sake of completing the PR activation process is actively dissuaded by IRCC/CBSA. Nobody is going to stop you if and when you leave Canada, but they will grill you when you come back.

Don't worry about medicals. My friend's PR application is still in progress after 3 years of AOR and still waiting for PPR. Your webform can't accelerate the PR application processing time. Just be patient. Good luck.

Looking for some inputs

I have gone through the last 100 pages of this thread with no luck

I am on Indian passport living in USA (with my wife and my 10-month-old infant)
My CoPR was approved on May 14th, 2020 (after March 18th)
My CoPR expires on Sep 5th, 2020

I do not want to travel right now and potentially expose my family to COVID.

The statement from IRCC is not clear enough

Applicants with expired COPRs can travel to Canada from the US for non-discretionary reasons to settle and live in Canada as a permanent resident if

• their application was approved
• they received their COPR and PRV and
• they have an acceptable plan to quarantine for 14 days in Canada

Only permanent resident applicants who are in possession of an expired COPR and PRV and who are ready to travel to Canada should contact IRCC using the Web form, to provide information on when the COPR expired and the non-discretionary reason(s) for travelling. Once Web forms are received, the Client Support Centre will refer them to the appropriate processing network (CN or IN), which will assess them based on the eligibility criteria below.

Just to get the general group consensus --> is it more prudent to travel now to avoid unnecessary hassle of extension? How difficult is getting an extension when applying from the US

In my case, I cannot immediately travel back to the US as I will need visa stamping

Please let us know what you decided. In a similar situation but opted to let the visa expire because of no soft landing condition. Are you planning to permanently move? Would be very helpful if you post your experience after reaching Canada. Thanks!

I think COPR approved after Mar 18 can not travel at all(I am not aware of current scenario but it was there till few days back. You can check by raising a web form).
If you are exempted, you should travel if you dont want the hassle of getting an extension otherwise extensions may take time.

Also, out of those 100 pages that you read you may have come across this little success story from USA:

His COPR and Visa Expired in April 2020. He was unable to travel due to COVID and raised a web form advising that he can’t travel. He received generic emails in response to his web form.

He then raised 3 web forms in June and July advising IRCC that he is ready to travel. He received the generic response to all 3. The web forms were very generic advising IRCC that he was ready to travel from NY to Toronto and that his COPR and VISA had expired and if he can be advised on next steps.

However, he raised another web form in August where he went into a lot of detail and advised them of the following.

Quarantine Plans

How will he travel from the airport to the residence

Where he will be residing, address and the person he will be staying with

How will he have access to groceries and medical help if needed

Once he raised the detailed web form, he received the following reply within a few days.

“Please be advised that we will reissue a new COPR and PRV. Kindly send your documents back, including the COPR, directly to our office. Include a prepaid air waybill, a return envelope and a copy of this email with your invoice. Send it to the attention of xxxxxxx.”

Yes, I did see that post but, they still have not received their passports back from what I am seeing.

@dashing_warrior, that's the dilemma that I am in. I do not want any uncertainty around extension. I only have 20 days to make a choice.

@adityacs007, this is going to be a tough choice as I am in transition from F1 to H1B. I will need to work things out with my employer for me to not lose H1B so that I can come back after Dec 31st, 2020. I am breaking my head here LOL.

Hi all, really grateful of everyone posting here and helping others.

So, i am from india.. my copr expired on May 9th 2020, and now last week i filled a webform and received a generic response that they have forwarded my request to the responsible office and also suggested me to contact visa office in delhi. So while i wait for a response from the "responsible office", i wrote to the delhi immigration and their response was also automated & generic but it had a section that said:

"Unfortunately, we're unable to provide timelines on processing Confirmation of Permanent Residence (CoPR) extensions. We continue to work as quickly as possible to process applications we have received during the pandemic.
We will send an electronic authorization letter with further instructions on travelling to Canada and landing as a PR once we have assessed whether travel exemptions have been met."

• Is this as expected?
• Is everybody getting responses like these from IRCC & other contacts?
• Has anyone from India got an extension?
• Or does everything depends upon vfs office services resume?
• If anyone has got a positive repsonse, could you please help me what else do i need to write in the webform? Anything specific?
