Travel restrictions

Hi,
I was in Canada for 4 years and have what they call “established” residency so my travel would be non-option since I have an apartment for 2020-2021
but,

I’m just looking for some advice here. I know you all are not border agents. Just looking for friendly and useful advice.
My situation is: my current study permit expires in the end of August, but I can travel while it’s still valid and apply inside of Canada to extend my SP so I will be on implied status.
But, I have a very good living situation at home and it would be so much cheaper to stay back home. I’m super stressed because I cannot decide what to do. Staying home would be better for comfort, but some concerns related with staying home and only going back in winter is that if current restrictions are still there in winter and if I extend/get a new study permit from outside of Canada, can I be able to travel back if my study permit is issued after March 18, 2020 If the restrictions are the same? I did have a valid study permit on March 18th, 2020 if that matters.
What would you do if you would be me? I’m in my final year and I have two semesters left at uni. Also, do you think travel restrictions might get stricter by winter?

sorry it’s a mess but literally super lost and can’t decide. I feel sad leaving home when I don’t really have to be in Canada except my lease but I feel like if I don’t return I won’t be ever allowed to enter and will lose my opportunity?
Should I just go back before it expires and apply from inside of Canada and be on implied status or I’d better enjoy my time at home and apply from outside and just go back in Jan with a new study permit (since I was planning to visit home during Christmas anyways) ?

It's always better for you to be in Canada and you never know how the travel restrictions will evolve.
You’re right. I guess I was just trying to see if I could use this opportunity to stay home longer . Tough decision when you have good living situations in both at home and mtl.

I agree with the previous post.
Also, don't take for granted that your extension will be resolved by December. We don't know that.
Currently, even with waived biometrics, there is still no movement forward regarding extensions.

Study permit extensions within Canada have 27 days process times. Hm few of my friends got it in 12-14 days

Would you guys think travelling 3 days before the expiration of your study permit is okay? I’m planning on applying inside of Canada once I enter like immediately so I’ll be on implied status.

That's great, but lots of us applied for an extension back in February/March/April, and still waiting.
Just something to keep in mind, though I hope it gets better.

Do you know if both of them have biometrics in the system?
I don't wanna generalize but I think most of the people who are still waiting are the ones that don't have biometrics in the system. Even though bios are waived, we are still on hold.

No they don’t. I think it was waived within Canada so doesn’t matter I guess

Oh wow, that's interesting. There isn't a single person on this forum who got approved extension without biometrics (inside Canada). I myself am waiting since March, and can't leave Canada because of it.
Still, there is a question why would newer applications be approved before earlier ones. Hmm.

You have a good point. Can’t you submit biometrics within Canada now? Also, if I’m correct you can leave Canada if you applied for study permit extension and just ask someone to get your study permit and mail it for you

No, biometrics offices are closed.
My study permit just expired and if I leave Canada for a month as I planned, I cannot get back in until my extension gets approved. My extension application is still "submitted" and there is no progress. My studies are not online - I am doing research, so not being able to get into Canada would ruin my whole year.

Oh I’m sorry you’re going through this. I thought that if you have implied status you can travel and then get back because you had implied status but I guess I’m wrong
